Tyler, Texas-Hunting

I was asked to make a couple of hunts (deer & ducks) in an area slightly north of Tyler, Texas. I have deer hunted in south Texas, but have never hunted in the northwest, Texas region. If anyone of you guys/gals ever hunted this region, I would appreciate any input as to what to expect.
I usually jump at the chance to hunt different areas, but I have a scheduling conflict with the dates of the hunts, and I am seeking information to see what plans I should change.
Thanks for any help.

Tyler is still piney woods. Decent deer hunting.
I've never heard of great duck hunting around Tyler, but a bayou or slough with woodies and gadwall wouldn't surprise me.

Yep pineywoods as far as you can see. Expect lower numbers, smaller deer and smaller racks than what you have seen in south TX. Duck hunting is hit/miss. Have same problems here as south LA, they just don't seem to show up anymore.

I grew up in Tyler with the occasional deer hunt here and there. North of Tyler is typically smaller tracts of land with a fair amount of hunting pressure. You likely won't see the numbers that you find in the central and southern part of the state but there are some decent size 130+ deer around from time to time. The type of hunting is different as you'll likely be in pine forests with limited long distance opportunities that is very different from the senderos of S Texas

The only thing worth hunting around Tyler are the milfs at Target.

Used to hunt some around Fairfield. Had a lot of deer and decent size, but smaller than west and south Texas.
