Tattoos are a permanent expression of a temporary feeling.
It exposes people that are impulsive thinkers and don't consider or care about the future.
I also believe that the body is sacred.

This should end the thread.

Sign I saw in a tat shop;
The difference between those with tattoos and those without... We don't care if you don't.

Because this place is full of judgmental motherfrickers that don’t like anything different from themselves.

People like to look down on others. Me also. I don’t hate them but have never seen one that I thought would make me look better.

I have three, a full-sleeve on my right (featuring a tiger on the forearm so...well, most of you here are LSU fans so hate if you want), a half-sleeve on my left, and one on my left forearm. They're all custom designs I came up with, and I had someone who's also a classically trained artist do the work.
They all represent something from my life, ranging from years of extreme depression and complex PTSD to my suicide attempt via gunshot to the chest, however in each design the purpose isn't to remind me of the horrors of my life, it's to remind me that no matter how terrible, and, to be frank, life-threating things have been I'm still here and still continue to fight each day and that I'm better and stronger than I often give myself credit for.
They've also been a wonderful coverup for the COUNTLESS self-harm scars I have from cuts and stabbings, and I'm not talking "cries for attention" cat scratches, I mean deep, deep cuts. It's been a very positive way to limit the visual impact of what I've done to myself in moments of extreme, suicidal levels of depression.
Tattoos are often about self-expression and extremely important times in a person's life, they're not always solely about aesthetics or doing shite on a whim or because you got trashed one Saturday night. I think tattoos can be trashy, but I'd only ever judge the tattoo, not the character of the person who has it because I don't know why they got it or what it might mean to them. And I think that's a pretty good perspective to take, rather than lambasting all tattoos or calling people that have them trashy or poor or stupid, etc. It may not be your thing, but why go out of your way to trash another person who you don't even know?
And I can understand those of you that think tattoos detract from a girl's beauty, but again, this is just a matter of personal preference. You might be into blondes, thick girls, whatever. It's just about what you find to be attractive. Nothing more.
TL:DR
Tattoos can represent very meaningful things to people and I find the blanket trashing of those of us who have them to be pretty silly. Just worry about yourself and whatever it is you're into, bro.

Tattoos that cover scars from things like above or huge surgery scars are wonderful ways to make tragedy better.

Every single tattoo ever looks terrible.
People with many tattoos/piercings are likely mentally/emotionally/spiritually damaged and looking to fill things in. I don't begrudge them this, but I'd rather them get real help than deface their own bodies.
I remember when they were only occasional, and thus, arguably cool. What I don't get is why they don't seem to ever be going out of fashion. How is it cool to get what everyone else also has?

Im fully sleeved on both arms and have a few others on my chest and legs. All done by great artists and high quality. I give zero fricks what anyone thinks. I have a good job, own a house, never been to prison and I’m not a drug addict. I am able to cover them with a dress shirt when I have to. I get that some people don’t like them and that’s cool with me. I don’t act like a female and get my panties in a bunch over what other dudes decide to do with their lives or how they dress. I’m not losing sleep over it.

It is a symbol of class demarcation. Why would you pay to stamp yourself as lower class? Makes no sense.

Because most of the OT is a bunch of closed minded, fat, old guys.
I want a leg sleeve so I could still wear short sleeved shirts to work but I’m too old. And fat.

I know each person is different. For me, have yet to see one done "right". So, and this is just me, I personally would not want my wife (no pics) to get one. Even though she has only gained 10 lbs since we have been married (addition from previous post).
