IMO, WVU losing to Pitt in 2007 is #1 and I can't really think of a close second. WVU would have steamrolled Ohio State and won a national title. Have to wonder where they would be now had that happened.

A&M - Arky 1975

Aggies ranked #2 10-0 coming off win against top-5 Texas. Unfortunately starting QB was hurt in the Texas game.

Had something like 6 fumbles on a cold and wet day and lost 31-6 at Fayetteville.

Would have played a good not great UGA team in the Cotton Bowl for the MNC as #1 Ohio St was upset in the Rose Bowl.

Ehh, everyone knew that was coming though. Oklahoma was favored by almost 10 points that night.

People have also stewed about the omission of 2nd and 26, when IMO the 2012 SECCG is a better "honorable mention" anyways. 2nd and 26 felt like the start of something great for Georgia; 2012 was Richt's last best chance.

IMO Kansas State's 1998 loss to A&M is the only close second. Not as big of an upset (still, 17.5 is a big spread), but they controlled the game way more than WVU did against Pitt. mizzoubuckeyeiowa has posted several times about how much of a letdown for basically everyone not associated with A&M or FSU it was.

Clint Stoerner 1998.

Nothing tops that for me. It broke that team. And me.

Yep. OU had already beaten them by double digits in the regular season. Everyone knew Mizzou was overrated.

Of all time?

I mean, 2013 had three pretty bad heartbreaking losses and they all involved Auburn. Not sure how those didn’t end up on the list.

2011 LSU’s loss to Bama in the NC had to hurt.

Georgia had the NC wrapped up against Alabama until Tua hits a deep pass to win it.

List is shite, of course.

Heavily favored 2001 Tennessee losing to LSU has to be up there.

K-State...for most neutral fans.

USC-Texas Rose Bowl, for probably only USC fans. They would've had a 3-Peat (which nobody has ever done) and be historically, the be all and end all.

We may never be #1 in football the way we have been trending recently but we'll seem to always hold the #1 spot on these types of list.

As you said, who knows where we would be now.RR stays, Tyrrell Pryor might have came in to replace Pat White, ACC invite? Ramifications with Michigan/LSU/Miles, so many scenarios.

Instead we get the scenario where Pat Mcafee ends up on ESPN. I hate this scenario.

The only entry I strongly disagree with is the MSU-Michigan botched punt, and that only comes in at #10 on the list.

Here’s where you’re wrong. Michigan’s coach Lloyd Carr called MSU Michigan’s little brother in 2007. Since then the Spartans had gone 6-1 against UM, both teams were ranked, and most saw MSU as the overrated team Bama would expose them for.

If he punts the ball, MSU probably doesn’t get another play (clock runs out). If he passes the ball incomplete, or is tackled with it, they have a difficult FG to kick. And if any of the two players trip him up, the game probably ends with a win.

It is as close as you get to a near automatic win turning into a loss.

I started getting into college football around 2005. beginning of middle school/end of elementary. Obviously I'm going to think that's the best era.... but it really was.

I'm guessing the only reason that one isn't higher is because Miami would have trucked them anyways.

Michigan losing to APL st. That was not only devestating for Michigan it sent shock waves through college football and he’ll create the most crazy college football season ever.

13-9, I was there and was given an all access pass by a friend who worked for the program at the time. Strolled around the field before the game and planned on going down after, needless to say that didn’t happen. As we walked back to the car I bummed a lighter off my friend and burned the pass.

More so their 1998 title. Most people think Oklahoma State would've gotten trucked by LSU in 2011 yet their loss to Iowa State commonly ranks high on these types of lists.
