I had the L5-S1 removed when I was 29. I’m 63 now. Never regretted it a minute. It was broken and stuck into the nerve on my left side. Lost 40% of the feeling in my thigh and foot and I have no reflexes on that side. The higher up the problem the more post surgery issues you will have. My suggestion would be to have surgery when you absolutely have to do something and not before.
