On to my next phase with my lawn. Although I have a 4-gallon backpack sprayer, I think that may be a better way to spray my lawn (insecticides, herbicides, etc.). It seems that liquid form for the products is cheaper in the long run than granules, so I need a recommendation for what to use to apply the product.

I have a lawn tractor so I can pull something if needed. Is there a sprayer(s) that you would recommend to apply the chemicals to the lawn? Thanks!

The lot is 1.25 acres, but probably about an acre of lawn.

I’m not sure liquid is cheaper but there are guys on here that would know. Liquid is generally faster in my experience especially as an insecticide. But liquid usually doesn’t last as long where as granule can last a very long time.

A 4 gallon for 1.25 acres is about right. I’ve looked at the expensive ones $300-500 and I just can’t see the value there over the $25 plastic ones.

It’s a lot better to go through them all and not leave anything in them, but it’s also good practice to have a couple different ones so you don’t have to empty or risk mixing it.

I use Solo and Chapin backpacks.

In terms of products you can decide if you want to use granular or liquid. Top choice is an excellent granular product but you'll need a ag license to purchase. Talstar XTRA granular is a very good product. Granular will be easier to apply and work great for general pest. However, if you discover army worms or sod webworms or chinch actively feeding you'll want liquid. If you are consistent with your granular applications you will probably never see the above mentioned insects.

What about pre- and post-emergent herbicides? Are granular more cost effective or effective overall, in your opinion? Or do you recommend liquid with the backpack sprayer?

Liquid is going to be cheaper. I wouldn't backpack an entire 40k lawn multiple times a year though. Spring and fall pre em, liquid iron applications, if it gets to weedy to backpack, etc.

Pull behind

I have an ag sprayer for back of atv. This link is to a pull behind. You can add a boom sprayer to this which would be good for preemergent. Ect. I like atv better when you dont have straight runs because of the shorter turning radius, but this pull behind might work well with lawn tractor.

Fimco from Tractor Supply.

Once the wheels dryrot get the no-flat wheels. Parts are easy to find and replace for them.
