Whatever we do, I just want it to cost Crane money more than it costs the Astros prospects

I just don't see JV coming back being a fit for either side.

He struggled through the playoffs to put in a WS win, barely, to his resume'

He's not the kinda guy to swallow his pride on any contractual obligations, and I knew that Mets deal had trainwreck written all over it.

Sure we could use the arm in the rotation, but when we need the playoff production, at what cost do we take the chance he can even show up, and that's even assuming he's healthy

Well, looks like nobody wants to hear that, but looking at it objectively from Crane and/or Brown's perspective, I'll die on that hill.

Won't be disappointed if they can get something done.

At least not until it doesn't pan out

Sorry for your loss. Let's win tonight for Bidge!

Also give me GOATlander back. Would love to see it.

A few reasons for bringing JV over:

1) He didn’t start his first game this year until June 8. He shouldn’t be fatigued.

2) His ERA has been steadily shrinking since that first start. It’s 3.15 now, compare that to our current starters.

3) Two rings here.

4) Synergy with current Astros players. He’s a leader and both parties are very familiar with one another.

5) Provides a shot in the arm to the current team. Just like us, they’re waiting to see what the front office does and just how invested they are in winning this year.

6) frick the Rangers.

You took this photo right as you showed Bidge the headline when FODB was given his contract for this season, right?

And a few reasons not to

1) Personal catcher

Can't disagree with any of those reasons

Just a matter of cost (future contributions from talent given up and resources for the same) moving forward for a piece that may marginally help our playoff position, and almost assuredly not help come playoff time

I mean, we needed a Bregman 2 run shot followed by a Yed 3 run shot to escape first round Game 1, then he blew a 5 run lead vs the Phillies

Yeah, and we already have a whole bull pen of guys that can do that.

I still wouldn't mind having JV. I think he'd be good for the clubhouse. He will say what he thinks and not care. He cares a lot about winning. In fact, I'd say getting wins is the main reason he is still playing.

That's the intangible. Brown and France need another voice other than Maldonado in their ears. No one on the present roster has the gravitas of Verlander, and it's sorely missing.

Well, if that's the case, we should know very soon

But I feel more like it's money, then the legacy he's after

It’s sounding like the Mets want quite a bit to deal him, so it probably isn’t very likely at this point. I do think he’s the best realistic option available to fill the rotation hole we need to fill. I think I’d give up any 2 or 3 prospects not named Gilbert if the Mets are going to eat a bunch of money (Baez is working his way into that group too) but that’s probably not enough to get it done. AL is wide open

There's only one obvious target who's better at his age, salary and potential. If the nerd cave thinks they can get the very best out of Cease, Dana should empty the cupboard for him.

I don’t see Cease as realistic for us. I’d love to get him obviously and would deal any prospect (Gilbert included) as well as some guys off the ML roster

I’m not good at trade values because I usually see more value in prospects the there probably is.

But what would a potential deal for say Verlander look like?

I mean, if Pena is on the table, Cease is attainable. The Astros have the ammo - namely current MLB players - to do it.

That’s a trade that’s almost always made in the winter. I’m not opposed to it but there isn’t much precedent for shaking up your major league roster like that mid year. It’s pretty rare

Bielak option is because Urquidy should be able to take his turn next time around I would think? So bring up the extra bullpen arm in between
