4,330 car burglaries in New Orleans so far this year - and that's down 32% from a year ago via ?

But Rafael Goyeneche, President of the Metropolitan Crime Commission says that number isn’t an accurate representation, with many going unreported.
“Keep in mind we have fewer police officers this year than we had at the same point in time last year. And many of the people who’ve been victimized by automobile burglaries this year have been victimized last year and the year before that. The public knows the manpower crisis in the police department, it’s unlikely the police are going to be able to get there in the foreseeable future so many of the people realize there’s no point in even wasting time to report break ins,” he said.

Exactly what I figured.
Kind of like shoplifting in California. Not reporting it because the cops can’t or won’t do anything about it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

I was thinking maybe fewer people go there now.
fewer visitors, fewer targets.

Must have burglarized all the cars already.

Maybe fewer regional visitors. I doubt the word is out nationally and internationally about the issues.

I think it's likely BS. Police don't even show up for this anymore. So they are either dumping the reports or people simply aren't calling it in because they know it's futile.
Juking the stats to show crime reductions to make the interim police chief seem like a decent candidate. This ensures a puppet running the department.
I say this a million times but go watch The Wire on HBO set in Baltimore. Almost the exact thing is happening in N.O. Mayor/Police Chief/News collusion. Although in the past year they seem to have let Zurich off the chain and there has been more reporting with all the travel fraud.

The city just changed the criteria or is purposely not reporting the real amount of crime anymore.

in an unrelated story, new vehicle sales in the greater New Orleans area are at an all time low...

What about car jackings? Do you think people aren’t reporting these either?

FOX 8 showed up at the city council budget meeting yesterday to ask Teedy some questions and she had her Gestapo "communications team" run interference for her. At one point Teedy tells the reporter, "I already know what you're going to ask so, no, I won't be answering those questions."
Here's some snipets:
And the pièce de résistance from Teedy:
PHASE TA-TWO
Here's some snipets:
quote:
After Cantrell’s press secretary said only questions about the 2024 budget would be allowed, Fox 8 tried to ask a budget-related question and again was denied.
Press Secretary: If it’s not about this, we’re not talking about it.
Fox 8: So, we can’t even ask her for any kind of comment unrelated to this?
Press Secretary: No
Fox 8: Is there a reason?
Press Secretary: Because we said so.
Fox 8: Okay. Understood.
quote:
Fox 8 was requesting more information about how the city intends to budget for possible $214,000 monthly fines related to the police retirement fund.
Press Secretary: No, we’re good.
Fox 8: No budget questions either?
Press Secretary: No.
Fox 8: So, no questions at all pertaining to this or not?
Press Secretary: No, because I’m pretty sure you’re going to ask something else.
Fox 8: I’m going to ask about if the payments to the police force retirement will be included in the budget planning.
Press Secretary: And I’m sure you’re going to ask even more than that. So, respectfully, no thank you.
And the pièce de résistance from Teedy:
quote:
“Under my administration, we have seen more challenges, as well as things that have come our way, than any other mayor has faced, really, in our history,” Cantrell claimed. “I would give us a 7, I really would.”
PHASE TA-TWO

the whole thing is pretty funny. Imagine bragging that you've "only" had 4,330 car burglaries halfway through the year!
like the broome saying murders are down from last year's record number.

Just anecdotal from driving around, it does seem like the breakins are a lot less.
Not sure the actual reason why though. Maybe the Feds work is finally paying off.

Doesn’t the city have less cops than ever? What would be the cause for a drop there?
Posted on 7/26/23 at 10:07 am to MorbidTheClown
quote:So in reality, it’s probable double the reported number.
