I don't think the real number was ever reflected. Maybe less people call these days maybe not, would be speculation to say either.

Eventually all of the good cars will be stolen and the rate should drop dramatically.

She must have still lived in Compton when Katrina hit, or she failed Nola history class.

Violent crime is down nationwide and most attribute that to the residual effects of COVID finally wearing off

Don’t leave anything valuable in your car and don’t lock the doors. Cuts down on the broken windows.

This is like when the cops stop arresting people so they claim that crime is down

COVID made people commit violent crime? What kind of shite is this?

The city just changed the criteria or is purposely not reporting the real amount of crime anymore.

Isn’t that what Morial did with murders, or was that because Charity got so good at treating gunshot wounds fewer people died?

Also from this week's MCC report:

We continue to see a substantial (135%) increase in auto theft (as of July 23, 2022, 1,898 auto thefts
vs. 4,394 in 2023).

Not it wouldnt. people literally say they dont call. People have had their cars busted from out of town and dont even bother.

What are you going to do while traveling? Wait around for the cops to do something? No.

Why some of you fight this i will never understand.

New Orleans is a complete dump by any standard.

You are only trying to convince yourselves its not the worst city in the US with the worst Mayor.

The point was do fewer people call now as compared to last year.

Last year, when this data came out, there was follow up information that showed actual calls versus actual cases.

no Pennington came in and cleaned up shop - increased pay and hired a lot more officers

He set up police stations in the worst places, and officers actually patrolled.

Typical excuse for crime by lowlifes. The reason for all the violent crime in urban areas is because of lack of job opportunities.

Because years ago when I had trouble finding a job after school, I went out and killed a couple of people in the neighborhood. That's just normal behavior /s

I think fewer people call compared to previous years, yes. Which would have started last year.
So last years numbers are higher too.

But i was commenting on yes you can speculate because people have said so on the news. That their car was broken into but dont even bother calling anymore.

Yeah, people have been saying that for a couple years.

Wouldn't expect some appreciable difference between 2022 and 2023 when it comes to people not calling in. Which is what this data reflects. If there is I don't think 33% fewer people are calling in.

From 2019 to 2023, no doubt.
