Those bunkers are incredible.

Watching Rory and Rahm deal with them were something.

If you were a foot from the wall, could you get out of them onto the green without goingbackwards or sideways ?

Personally, I probably pick up after a triple lol...

Between that and the out of bounds tucked tight on the right side of the green makes that approach absolutely terrifying. Watching Fowler today was brutal. Felt horrible for the guy.

You can drop out of bunker for 2 strokes.

For me, I’d think about it.

Dropping in is one stroke, is the sand firm or soft?

USGA new rules
R & A rule
New rules allow drop out side the bunker with 2 stroke penalty if golfer declares ball as unplayable in a bunker.

Well shite. I apologize to makers then. I was unaware. I knew you could take an unplayable in a bunker but didn’t know if the rule change

JT finished with a quad on 18 today.

First drive OB & then ended up in greenside bunker too

It’s a newish rule. I always read the rules updates with high hopes of some change that will be helpful and kind to the golfer, but I still have to play out of divots when I hit the fairway. I still have to leave my pitch mark in a soggy collar directly on my line unrepaired taking the option of Texas wedge away.

I think bunkers are hazards and the penalty should be 1 stroke for dropping outside hazard like every other hazard.

If it was one shot, I’d drop out of some situations(under lip, in a foot print, etc)

Since it’s 2 shots to drop out, I just try my best. Strangely, I had a sandy on both of my most recent 9s. Perfect lies on upslopes.

I'm playing this course in two months. Can't wait. I played a few in Scotland and my caddy said your only play is to hit it backwards lad. Saw where they are raking them different today. All 87 bunkers will now have a bit of sand sloping away from the edges to avoid having the ball up against the lip

Did y'all see that they changed the bunkers last night? They raked them one layer higher on the faces so the ball wouldn't be as likely to be stymied.

I could get behind changing this if it's your pitchmark. Just like the embedded ball local rule. Not for every old pitchmark on the collar.

Define a divot. How new? Is there grass growing back in it? I understand how frustrating it is to hit a good tee shot and see your ball in a hole, if this was a rule, players would be trying to get relief from most imperfect fairway lies claiming that it's a healing divot.

On one hand, I like how the bunkers are actually a one shot penalty for the pros. Bunkers over here are too easy for good golfers and only a penalty for high handicappers

On the other hand, I don’t like the random nature of how they are placed and it’s kinda “luck of the draw” at times with them

I’m just saying that if you hit a good shot, it should not be in a hole. I play out of them.

We water the greens so much. The collars are saturated most days. I’ll hit and spin out of pitch mark directly behind the hole in the ground o just made. The rules say you cannot repair it.

I repair after my shot.

Scottie's bunker shot on 18 was incredible. It was positioned where the only out looked like it was sideways away from the pin but he needed birdie to make the cut. His shot lipped out and he had a tap in birdie.

The rough there is pretty easy compared to most opens but the bunkers punish them more than any in recent memory. All the sand slopes towards the embankment.
