I dont think most of those big cargo ships/super tankers do much more than 15 mph but i could be wrong
Those big ships move out pretty good. When I worked offshore the vessel I was on could make about 16 knots, or about 18.4 mph. Those big cargo/tanker ships would overtake us, and out pace us pretty easily. The cruise ships are even faster!!

They go pretty fast. We use to fish in the shipping lanes at night drifting for swordfish. The lookout on the bridge had to be sharp because those ships could be on a top of you in a few minutes. We had a proximity alarm on the radar but We didn’t rely on it.

Isn't that in international waters? How can the US government make any laws about speeds in thos area?

Just wait until we strap wind sails to these big ships, they will hit 30mph

Whales will adapt like most whales or die like the north Atlantic retard whales.

They need to provide enough funding for underwater signage warning the whales not to leave this area or they could be hacked to pieces by speeding cargo ships

Will the hurricanes traveling this route need to slow down as well?
Only the prop-driven ones.

I don't understand the desire to save every species. Who gives a shite if this whale dies out? Is anyone's life the worse because Tyrannosaurus Rex died out?

There’s a band extending 200nm from the coast called the “exclusive economic zone.” The country has the sovereign right to manage and conserve natural resources in the waters and seabed/subsoil within that zone and to protect and preserve the marine environment within that zone.
Countries have full control over the first 12nm and significant control over the next 12nm, so most people refer to seas outside of either of those as “International waters,” but the high seas don’t really start until you get past the EEZ (or even beyond that to the end of the continental shelf, if you’re talking strictly about the seabed), and the coastal country’s jurisdiction fully ends.

“Slowing down ships in the whales’ habitat is more than common sense. It’s basic human decency.”
How many of these whales have been affected by boats going faster than 10 mph?

How do they know there are only 50 left? The gulf is a pretty place.
Because it's by design, an invented endangered species.
quote:
Rice's whale ( Balaenoptera ricei ), also known as the Gulf of Mexico whale, is a species of baleen whale endemic to the northern Gulf of Mexico. Initially identified as a subpopulation of the Bryde's whale, genetic and skeletal studies found it to be a distinct species by 2021. In outward appearance, it is virtually identical to the Bryde's whale.
Want to regulate an area?
1) Find a small genetic difference in the population of some otherwise abundant species living there.
2) Declare a "new" species discovered.
3) Declare this species as critically endangered, based on on circular logic that found it to be a separate species in the first place.
4) Imply in articles that this is the "humans" fault, and not the scientists who picked an arbitrary rare trait only to turn around and complain that said arbitrary rare trait is rare.
5) Make rules to "save the whales".
This is pretty similar to the LA/MS frogs SCOTUS case from a few years ago. Some of those "species" that 'only survive in one pond' would only have 1-2 genes different from the different also "rare species" in the next pond 100yds away.
They had to do DNA testing to be able to tell the difference, with just a handful of base-pairs being flipped, and using that to claim "new species".

Are we allowed to say that?

We should set goals and thresholds for when things can go back to normal.

Whales being too stupid to dodge boats in the vastness of the ocean are like birds walking or flying in front of cars. Get them tards outta here
