We are close by. Heard two distinct booms. 40 years working in the plants, it was a chilling sound. Hope everyone is ok. EtO is no joke

Ethylene Oxide

Checked in with my folks in St. Gabriel, they heard it but haven't gotten an alert. My mom retired from Dow about 5 years ago and texted me "That's an ethylene oxide plant!" Basically bad stuff and anyone downwind needs to keep all windows closed and shut off the AC.

Eta: family that lives on the west side said they went outside and their noses and throats starting burning.

Less than a gallon. Chainlink fence contained it all. No risk to the community.

News said wind is blowing towards Plaquemine Point.

Iberville Sheriff saying Shelter in Place and Shut Off AC in East Iberville. (Out of an abundance of caution.)

Plenty of friends passed over for unqualified engineering candidates. Senior management bonuses tied to certain hires.
