$1000 to Spend on a New Rifle - Update

I was given a $1k gift card to a large sporting goods store today and want to get a hunting rifle, will be mostly deer hunting and some exotics here and there.
What rife are the experts of the OB buying? Bonus points to include the optics in that price range. I don’t mind buying the optics separate and putting $1k on the rifle though.
ETA: Give me manufacturer, model and caliber.
After some research and considering the suggestions here, I was set on a Bergara B14 or tikka t3. I went to the gun shop today and found a pre-owned B-14 HMR in 6.5 CR for $800, leaving me a little change to throw towards a scope, mounts, ammo and case.
I couldn’t find a scratch on the rifle anywhere and it still had the adhesive on the barrel where the stickers were pulled off. The guy that took it in on trade seemed to think it may have had a box of rounds thru it and that’s it.
Got a vortex viper 4-16x44 mounted on it.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

They should have a tikka t3x in 308 for about 700ish and then put a leupold v3x 3.5-10x40 for 499$

Bergara B-14 Ridge in 6.5 PRC, .308 or .270.
Scope I’d try a Maven CRS.2 (4-16x44 SFP Rifle Scope) or one of the Meopta scopes in your budget.

Tikka T3x, caliber dependent on what exotics you're talking about. 270 or 30-06 should take about anything in North America, but you're the one who knows what you're hunting.

Knowing a little bit about you, your personal situation with respect to your career, location, ability to hunt exotics from time to time, raising two young kids, etc, my suggestion is as follows:
Tikka T3 Lite Stainless Synthetic in the 308 caliber. You’re at a grand here. Your gift card is DUN, done.
Smack that bitch up with a 50mm 3.5x12 to 14 power scope and do not skimp on the mounts. Vortex and Meopta are great scopes in this paradigm. Be sure to look at numerous scopes to determine what reticle you prefer for your line of sight.
Add a nice pair of 50mm binos. Put the scope and binos on the wife’s credit card along with a couple hundred bullets for your new setup. Sight it in to pop a pimple on a gnat’s arse at 200 yards. When you return to Franklin Parish to hunt with your family during the holidays, you will shine like a new gold tooth. Many will ask how you came across this setup. Your response will simply be:
“Baskin IS Gilbert”.

I don’t know if Bergara is making a 7 PRC yet but if they are I would add 7 PRC to the list.

Have that exact one. I wish it was a 30-06 or 7 rem.

I don’t think they are in the model I posted.

New Weatherby vanguard in 308. Just saw they released some new models.

Dont listen to the 6.5 or 7 PRC folks *above*. No need for an exotic cartridge unless you're routinely shooting 500+ in the mountains or for competition.
Get a readily available round in a good platform. Sure Bergara is awesome, but 95% of people wont notice the difference between that and a Remington/Ruger/Savage when it comes to accuracy. Even though the action or trigger may be smoother and it may have a cool fluted barrel to show to your new shooter friends.
30-06 / .308
.270
7mm-mag

My guess is that .300 mag is overkill for all but a small handful of north american game animals.

Overkill is best kill
I'm a fan of the African rifle policy. Get a rifle big enough to shoot the biggest thing you might hunt, and shoot everything with it.

Why?
300wm recoil is substantial in a 7 pound rifle. Loud too. You only get 250 fps more than 30-06.
the limbsaver airtech pad helped mine without adding a can or brake.

Is this your only/primary rifle or are you adding to a decent sized collection?

I’d get a Marlin lever to in 45/70.
