Looking for suggestions for a DIY roof wash for an asphalt shingle roof. I tried the bleach/dawn/water mixture but didn't see too much result. Has anyone tried an approach that worked for them?

I have had good luck with Wet & Forget Stain Remover but my only issue was brown/black staining.

I don't know what they put in Jomax, but that stuff seems to supercharge the bleach/water mix

I watched a few videos the other day. Looks like a lot of pros use a 50/50 bleach/water mix. Is that what you used?

I’ve tried a few things from Home Depot and nothing seemed effective. I scrubbed a small area under a tree shade area with a brush and that helped a little. Too much to do the whole roof though. I know the commercial guys use something that will kill all your plants if they don’t cover them below the roof. My neighbor had this happen. I prefer something I can spray since I don’t want a pile of people stomping around on my roof. Next roof i get, I’ll have the Zinc strips installed at the top to kill the algae.

The commercial guys use bleach, but a stronger mix than the usual.

Pool supplies have "chlorinating liquid" that is a stronger mix (10-12%). That should probably be cut in half. Add a little soap as a sufactant to make it stay in place longer.

The key for a DIY soft wash mixture to match what the pros use is to add a surfactant to your mix. This is what causes the mixture to cling to your roof instead of just rolling back down and into your gutters.

So just google roof wash surfactant mixture for some ideas.

Is there any consensus on potential harm done to the shingles? I always fear on the it's the mildew holding them together or something and this stuff will cause them to dry rot away.
