Just spent the last month & a half down in South Florida, mainly in the Naples and Fort Myers area.
Hard to feel like you fit in over there if you’re not wearing 40k+ Rolex Sky dweller or Daytona.
Anybody into investing in watches? I’m thinking about getting into it and starting softer with something like a Batman submariner or diversifying in a couple cheaper pieces like an Omega and maybe an IWC. It’s a little intimidating because it’s not as simple hitting a red button on my computer and I almost instantly have all my money back.
Things have come down quite a bit over the last year or so and seem to be forming some sort of a bottom. I feel like Rolex’s are more liquid of a market too compared to something like sports cards. Less dirtbags trying to cut you down too.
Opinions?

Lots of fakes. Be careful and do your research. If you want to do something besides stocks maybe Pokémon cards. Those are very hot

Purses are where the real money is at.

Purses suck. I don’t even know the names of them but I’ve bought a few for my wife and she’s bought herself a few that were thousands of dollars.
She never fricking uses them. She’s always uses some cheap $200 purse. It’s like me having 10 omega watches and wearing a fossil or Kenneth Cole watch.

Watch prices are falling by the month. You have to be able to source them from at MSRP to make money and if you are buying neo vintage or vintage you have to really know what you are doing. It’s not something you just jump into.

I don’t know anything about purses other than that with most top end brands like Hermes, Birkin, etc.. You have to have an equal amount of store credit or money spent at the store to the price of the bag before they’ll let you purchase one.
Like if you wanted to buy a 20k Hermes purse, you need to already have spent 20k on other things in the store before they’ll allow you to purchase one lol.
Idk if she made anything off them but my sister is a PA and took a year off work. She was able to get by liquidating her closet full of designer purses on ebay.

Start small and don’t overthink the first watch.
Set a budget of say, $2,500, and buy a mechanical watch.
It doesn’t have to be perfect nor “everything you want.” Instead, it’s an introduction.
If, after a while of owning your first watch, you decide you want to spend more, go for it. If not, then you will have managed to scratch that itch for only $2,500.
(or $3k, $4k, whatever you decide).

If you are trying to flip watches, I would stick with Rolex. But good luck getting your hands on one - they have been pulling some scarcity BS for years now.
If you want to “invest” as in, own a nicer watch, I cant say enough about Omega. Great brand and solid as hell pieces.

I guess I never pay attention to what type of watches people are wearing
Could not care less .

Birkin is a style of Hermes purse...these bags cost $250K+ each. Insanity. I'll stick with my $250 Michael Kors.

Holy shite, thought my wife was the only one that did this. Literally purchase these and they sit in the box for months. I don’t get it at all. Once in a blue moon she pulls it down, uses it and then back in the box. Unreal.

I dont mean to sound rude, but if you are stressing over the price of luxury items then you cant afford them. Speaking strictly from a sound financial perspective that is....
Also, nothing you can ever buy will make you feel like you fit in. That is a set of qualities man cannot buy.

You're going to jump into a speculative luxury market just because you felt out of place in Naples?
My man, save your $$$$.

My brother in Christ. Nobody is stressing over anything I assure you. Rolex’s are widely used as investment vehicles/ stores of value. It just depends on what price you get in like with any investment. With your logic technically this entire sub forum shouldn’t even exist.
And for the fella who claimed he never cared to notice what was on another man’s wrist. Congratulations, now you will ;)

Are you saying that’s not a good reason?

Yes, I am.
I'm going to say that's probably the worst reason to speculate with your money.

Don't kid yourself. Investing in luxury watch's is not even remotely linked to any sound investing strategy.
People who say this are just rationalizing it. The fact is most watches go DOWN in value.
But, its totally fine to have that as a hobby or whatever your reason, but saying its an "investment" is for people who probably shouldn't be buying it in the 1st place.
Just my 2 cents...

Don’t invest in toys. Invest in things that make money

Sub w/blue bezel and black face only comes in white gold - so you’re in the 40’s for that.
If you mean GMT Batman - I think you can get that in Stainless Steel for ~12k
