Any recommendations on spots to watch fireworks in new York city? Ideally somewhere without huge crowds but a decent enough view.

Make friends with someone who has a roof deck with a view.

Would you think if we found an open spot in central park that wasn't covered in trees we'd be able to see any fireworks?

I don't think so.

Fireworks usually take place on either the East or Hudson rivers. Can't see either from Central Park.

This is really the best answer if you want to avoid huge crowds while still having a decent view.
