He wasn’t going to go 11 innings so I don’t think it really changes anything.

I mean you really can’t physically compare Lowder to Skenes. Honestly you can’t physically compare Skenes to any baseball player (closest comparison would be TE/DE since he is 6’6” 250). Skenes is built to carry a heavier workload more so than Lowder.

Lowder gave what he had and he and WF staff knew they had other fresh stud arms ready to go. Implying Lowder wussed out is just dumb. He knew his limit and turned it over to the BP. If anything that shows his unselfishness to do what is best for the team. The next 3 relievers were all supposedly elite guys. The 2nd guy mowed us down for 3 ins. The dude TT hit the HR off of was supposedly the best of their BP guys who were supposedly the best in the nation.

This was the *actual* bad move. Massey was carving us up. Could not believe he got taken out.

I mean we didn’t hit the relievers either until the bottom of the 11th

This is where the analytics got in their way.

Massey faced 10 batters, only one guy saw him twice. Dylan Crews on the second time seeing him barreled him up and they got scared.

Have you ever been so physically fatigued from a performance/workout you just can’t go anymore? That feeling is almost never experienced by 99% of the population.

A lot of respect for Walter, gave a kidney to one of his players about 10 years ago.

He only averaged 82 pitches and less than 7 innings per start. He was probably done when you take into account how taxing every pitch was in that environment.

He’s not built like Paul Skenes. Simple as that.

So it would have been White’s 2nd time seeing him would it not? You don’t have any room for error as the road team in that situation, 1 run ends it. If he leaves Massey in and White blasts a double and Crews scores then he gets questioned for leaving him in too long.

100% this. WF coach had no reason to question his reliever, and in his press conference he was actually kicking himself for not having Massey start the inning because why have a guy come in for 1 hitter. But when you are facing the gauntlet coming up with Crews, White & Morgan for the 2nd time and the first guy has solid contact; the logical move is to change pitchers. That's not the lab thinking for them, that's making a decision based on what's happening right there in front of them

Yep. Guy was gutting it on every pitch as he just don't have the muscle mass. That is what is so extraordinary about Skenes; he's such a big guy that he can somewhat coast and still throw 99mph for the duration.

Well, part of that was carving up LSU's 7-9 hitters...who basically any bum in Omaha can carve up right now.

Crews was the only guy who saw him twice, and they seemed to panic a bit once he got a hit. However, I would have just chalked that up to the fact he's the best hitter in the game.

I think the announcers mentioned the longest Massey had gone was 4 innings and ~40 pitches. He was nearing 40 pitches after the Cruz AB. I suppose you if you trust your closer it wasn't a bad option. Of course, I guess the "pitching lab" didn't factor in the data that White had probably faced him several times before being White played in the ACC the previous year and being they are both from the Tampa area likely had a history of matchups.

it's how they've won all season.

They had a full pen full of elite arms and no sense in extending Lowder who hasn't been extended all year.

The plan worked well all game and it just took one bad pitch

He was at 88 pitches and showed zero fatigue on the mound. I agree with coco, dude wussed out.

Sure the guys behind him were good, but in a pitchers duel you gotta know extras is a real possibility. Their season was on the line, he wasn't being unselfish. He was being a wuss.

88 pitches, not 120.
