Part of playing defense is making your guy work his butt off to guard you. Can’t tell how many times Gilbert Arenas has mentioned how one of the best ways to slow down an offensive player is to make him work on defense. That’s why you see teams like the Maverick put Luka on Herb because Herb just stands in the corner.

You need to chill. I would have rather taken Bufkin but melting like this over taking Hawkins is absurd. The guy will probably never be a star and may never be a high end starter, but he’s got a plus NBA tool and can play in the league. You need to save these melts for when we inevitably destroy our future on a dumb all-in move

You're right. Im pissed because Griff is a terrible GM but he'll do something in 6-12 months that will be worse than this.

I obviously don't follow draft prospects but reading a draft profile it reminded me of drafting NAW years ago. Same size, although NAW has a better wingspan. They graded very similarly on NBADraftNet. I'm not saying he's NAW and that their careers will be similar, I'm just bringing it up as a past draft memory.

Know what this team needs to be optimal with its current 2 best players?
S P A C I N G

A lineup of CJ, Trey, Hawkins, Zion, and Herb/DD lets Zion collapse the defense when he drives and he has 3 amazing options to kick it out to. 1 or 2 quick passes and you have 3 technically elite shooters getting an open look.

This team has its best players already in place. You get role players to come off the bench and provide something they are extremely good at to allow the system to work.

Great pick tonight for team needs. Not a sexy pick like all the dipshits who think they would be a better GM swinging for the fences every chance they get.

Defense for a rookie playing against second or third units will improve. We have enough of a roster for Willie to figure out what will work best to maximize offense and be efficient on D.

There’s no way you can reasonably say Hawkins “sucks”. You can argue the pick, but that’s ridiculous…

There’s no such thing as having too many shooters. You can always figure out the minutes.

He fricking sucks and shows Griff's pattern of being a complete pussy. This is more of an indictment of Griff as a GM than Hawkins. Griff is the guy who is afraid of walking up to the hot girl at the bar because he might be rejected. I don't want that kind of pussy as a GM

Why not trade this pick for bogdonovic or hield instead of hoping this kid is those guys? If you wanna be a bitch and draft for need then just trade that pick to fill the need.

Hawkins has an elite skill, shooting. Elite shooting, is the most valuable skill in the NBA.

Pick a Bogdanovic, they make between 18-20 million a year. This was the best way to get an elite shooter on the roster.

With that said I wanted Lively or Dick but I actually think Hawkins will be able to get open in more ways than Dick. Hawkins' movement /shooting is going to really open the offense. And he doesn't need to be on the ball

Hawkins does not suck, He is the best shooter in the draft. However, hes the type of player that won’t crack the rotation because he is very poor defensively and can’t hold his own in a more physical game.

The numbers in the NBA draft tell you to go higher upside and this is a guy with a low ceiling. I would love to be wrong but he has a lot to do, but to be fair anyone you take in the late lottery has a lot to do to become anything more than an an above average role player

he’s like curry but with no other similar skillsets outside of his offball movement and catch and shoot shooting

His floor is Seth Curry. His ceiling is probably elite shooter role player. But like I keep saying... shooting is the most valued skill in the league.

If you can shoot you can always stay on the floor. Plus he isn't an awful defender. He competes and he is a good athlete with some length.

We were 29th in 3point shooting last year and a ton of those were wide open looks generated by Z and BI. We were losing the 3 point math equation every night. Shooting was our biggest hole.

I don't see how you could be disappointed with this pick.
