Jay Johnson would have bunted Brad Cresse in the 2000 CWS Finals

Runners on first and second, 0 outs, tie game, bottom of the 9th. Cresse had one hit the entire CWS up to that point. Skip let his man swing away.

Last night runner on first and second, 0 outs, up 3, bottom of the 7th. Tre Morgan had zero sacrifice bunts on the season. Tre was batting almost .500 in the CWS up to that point. Jay called for the bunt.

Just having a little fun this morning. The bunt call was bad, but I’m super excited to be in the position where we are right now. Jay has assembled and managed this team to be one of the final 3 teams still playing. Let’s see a little more magic tonight and this weekend!

In a park where runs are at a premium, bunting Trey was absolutely the right call

Bunting has been the only baffling thing to me so far. Everything else for the most part has been spot on. Hopefully he realizes this now since we haven't been a bunting team all year that we don't need to start now.

The Morgan bunt attempt was a great call and would have for sure caught wake off guard. Morgan just didn't execute it.

Dumb take. But I laughed.

Almost as stupid as trying to bunt Thompson twice and getting to pop outs.

I disagree. I’m not super anti bunting, but I’m anti bunting with a guy that’s been hot at the plate and is very hard to double up.

I love the way JJ has handled the lineup and made pitching decisions this entire off-season. Tremendous job of coaching and motivating the team. However, bunting Morgan was not a good decision.

Not when you consider...

not when you're bad at it. bunting for the sake of bunting isn't the right choice.

Right call because it was an ideal situation for it but wrong batter to execute it. Just let Morgan swing away with instructions to swing early and get every thing high and into right field.

I can tell some of you are watching baseball for the first time

Everyone here is playing the result. We practice bunting. We have not had to use it much this year. This park is made for small ball. We’ve seen a number of things in Omaha that teams are “doing” for the first time. Trey has to execute there plain and simple. It was the right call.

Bunting, in a vacuum, is not a bad call in that situation. But it was a bad call with the variables in THAT situation.

LSU doesn't bunt. It's not their MO/game plan. Second, Morgan as been one of your best hitters in the CWS. Maybe hit hits into a DP. Maybe he strikes out. But I'll play the odds and take my chances with him swinging the bat vs. taking it out of his hands, asking him to do something he rarely does only to then rely on guys who have been lesser hitters in the CWS (really just Dugas compared to Morgan) to come through behind him.

You don’t bunt with the No. 3 hitter, especially one that’s been hot. If he rips a shot into a corner, you’re getting at least one run and maybe two. And Morgan hasn’t been asked to bunt much this year. Dumb call.

Just because you win the game doesn’t mean the move was smart, especially since it didn’t work.

the bunt call was the right call.

runners on 3rd and 2nd takes away the double play ball, scores the guy from 3rd 99.9% of hits (Beloso’s being the 0.1%)

morgan just broke the #1 rule of bunting: don’t go up for a bunt

After what I saw Dugas do for for the Tennessee game I would have let Tre hit and bunted Dugas

I bet not. He’s called like 15 bunts all year. They were playing for 1 run to stretch a 3 run lead to 4. I didn’t love it either but Jays not just reaching for bullshite. He’s proven to be pretty methodical and intentional about every decision

Side question:

Is the NCAA finally going to Free Will Wade today?

It’s not that big of a deal. I wouldn’t have done it, but I can see why you would. Morgan had to not bunt a ball at his eyes.
