That's a long time to sit there and think about your impending demise while smelling everyone's farts.

How long does it take to get to the wreck if it went missing 1:45 into the dive

On a youtube channel, a guy said there is a system that automatically causes the sub to begin moving to the surface if there are no command inputs for 24hrs. Seems like the sub would now be on the surface if that was the case and the sub was able to get to the surface.

The questions then are whether the thing has an emergency beacon and, if so, does it need a conscious operator to engage it?

I read it should surface even if it loses power. That means it:
A.) It imploded
B.) It's stuck inside the wreckage and can't float to the surface
C.) It did float to the surface but is lost somewhere.

Also, if C.), they are still fricked because it can't be opened from the inside. It's bolted shut from the outside and requires someone on the outside to free them.

Titanic tourist sub has oxygen until 2:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, if it's still intact, according to the U.S. Coast Guard

Anyone else getting Apollo 13 vibes from this situation ?

I mean these guys arent noble heroes like Lovell, Swigert et al were, but just the limited time to get back home, and with the world watching and all .

I just read that they have something like 60 hours of oxygen.. In the same article the expert thinks they might have been entangled in the wreckage..

I don't know anything about this stuff.. But there is no communication with the sub to home vessel? What about some type of beacon on the sub?

I get more of a Thai soccer team in the cave feel.

GPS doesn't work under the ocean surface.

Wtf. So you can’t even pilot this thing locally at all. Can only be controlled remotely. That seems kind of ridiculous

Yes the link is Texags but the OP says his company was originally asked to work with the company that built the Sub but ultimately declined because they were basically dumbasses.

quote:

My firm was asked to work with these guys and we did not join due to their safety plan and materials in their hull. Now the Coast Guard is calling us to ask about any rescue possibilities. We got nothing at those depths.

quote:

Carbon fiber hull and unclassed vehicle was a recipe for disaster on this one. Probably why the fare was so high too.

quote:

Build the submersible for them. But the carbon fiber requirement and lack of adequate hull pressure monitoring caused us to leave. Also, I am hearing the insurance issue was tempered by making the passengers "crew members." Everyone had to have some "training" to make them crew members before embarking.

If all of that is true, that’s unfortunate and incredible at the same time.

I thought you meant someone stole it at first. This sounds terrifying.
