WTF did I just watch? M’benga killed an ambassador in cold blood and Pike acts like it’s not a big deal? I don’t care about his reasoning. He’s a Starfleet officer and the Chief Medical Officer on the flagship. Completely irredeemable character at this point. I don’t really want to watch another episode with him in it. Chappell covering for him is just as bad. It makes sense that she would, given their past, but both should be locked up in the brig awaiting trial. Una gets dragged to court for lying on her Starfleet application, but these two skate by on murder and covering for it? Wow.

Supposedly, they meant to show ambiguity regarding whether it was self-defense or murder. I read an article that says multiple versions of the confrontation were in fact filmed, and ambiguous version was chosen. If it was self defense, the M’Benga likely might escape punishment but it wouldn’t be shocking to see him removed of his duties as chief medical officer on the enterprise. He does appear in TOS as a doctor in Private Little War I believe.

The biggest question to me is, are there really no cameras in sick bay on the enterprise that would have caught this event?

And as a trek-nerd, what about when Scotty was accused of murder, but turns out it was really Winnie the Pooh/Ripper?

You're handicapping the writers if you set this in a world where cameras and mics record every public room and corridor in the ship. And even hospitals have private areas without security cameras.

This is correct, he was the medical expert on Vulcans. I've been wondering how he went from Chief Medical Officer in SNW to just another doctor under McCoy in TOS and maybe this episode is the beginning of that.

Just a guess of course

If it's a waiting room or something like that, seems reasonable. But if it's where medical consultations, treatments and procedures might take place, I think it's highly unlikely. But ofcourse I'm speaking with modern day ethical bias. Perhaps the Star Trek universe might have a different take on such things.
