If anyone is familiar with George R.R. Martin's fantasy series "A Song of Ice and Fire", you'll be glad to know that production has begun for a pilot episode. If HBO likes it, it would go into production as an HBO series where each book is a season.

And if you're not familiar and looking for an intriguing series, go pick up "A Game of Thrones", the first book in the series. Or wait for it to come to HBO if you don't want any surprises ruined.

I'm holding back a bit on this. I really dig the books, but How they are going to do this on HBO w/ any honor to the story is beyond me. Hell, They stopped filming ROME b/c of the budget. This one will be just as steep.

also, he needs to get off his arse and finish Dance. I fear he's going to be Robert Jordan Part II

That is also a big fear of mine. Of course, if it does end up becoming a series, he'll have to finish all his books withing seven years of Season 1 so that there is no gap, so it might be a good thing.

I didn't know that ROME was ended because of Budget, but that could put a damper on things. But according to Martin, the script for the pilot is "kickass" and very true to the story, so who knows.

If it's ever going to be put on screen, this format is how it's going to have to happen.

Agreed. My wife is re-reading them again and is on the Storm of Swords. I need to re-read again for the 3rd time.

I just started my third reread a few weeks ago and am starting on Feast, which I've only read once. Already I'm picking up on things I didn't see the first time through.

Well the good thing is that HBO has the most creative license, also I believe BBC is co-funding it so there is really no excuse to not go ahead with the project. Considering their other off genre shows like Deadwood, and Showtime or Cinemax's Tudors show.

Hell I wish they would do Jordan in this format.

Weekly show would make it much better than condensed 2 hour movie out of 1000 page book.

Of Course Rand the actor playing Rand would be 42 by the time they got to the end.

The reason why Rome's budget was so ridiculously high was because they actually shot it in Italy, which is outrageously expensive to do.

This is going to be shot mostly in Eastern Europe and New Zealand.

Well, it wouldn't take them any time at all to get through book 7-11, because NOTHING HAPPENED IN THEM! If you can't tell, I'm a little bitter over Jordan's final books.

Look no further, a Jordan movie is in the works. A company named Red Eagle Entertainment owns the rights, and are in some serious discussion/planing stages as we speak.

This is one interview

Whoever said Martin needs to get off his arse and finish the books is right on the money.

Martin is old, fat, batshit crazy and seems to have written himself in a corner. I don't know if he will finish it..

As far as the HBO pilot and possible series, can they cover one of the books in 12 episodes?

Also, I heard GRRM would write one of the shows, which I guess is another excuse for him to not finish the series.
