No, that isn't it.

They just set expectations through the sky for this team, and not unreasonably so, and of late they're playing far under those.

That's hard to cope with as a fan, and one of the most common ways to deal with it is to turn on them.

So they'll turn on the team out of frustration, and then come back when there's success. We all do it here and there.

A good take.

As I have watched this team over the course of the season I often wondered if we were ahead of ourselves in the expectations for the performance of this team and a trip to Omaha. This is just the second year for Jay Johnson. It's not easy to deliver a National Championship in that time for any coach in any sport. Not that it can't be done, but it's not a likely outcome. With a MLB pitching coach, new talented arms, a strong group of players coming through the portal and a #1 recruiting class its easy to understand why we have high expectations. Unfortunately, the team has underperformed the talent level and the bullpen issues are obvious, frustrating and baffling. They might still pull it together and get on a post-season-run. It could happen. I just think it's an unlikely outcome purely based on the collapse we have seen over the last several weeks. Despite an offense that can put up double digit runs, we know that no lead is safe when the bullpen can't throw strikes. I don't know how to solve it. But I can certainly understand the fan frustration. It's hard to watch this team put up enough runs to win only to watch that erode into a loss. Without a deep and dependable bullpen a trip to Omaha is going to be a very challenging endeavor.

This is actually true. We always tend to rate our baseball team as either, we’re winning the whole show this year, or this team will be lucky to make it to a regional.
At the beginning of the year my thoughts were anything less than winning 2 games in Omaha would be a big disappointment on this season. With the pitching injuries I think you have to throttle that back now.
