I load the 140’s over IMR4895. Similar results.

I shot the federal premium sierra boat tails forever then switched to the partitions when I couldn’t get the sierras anymore. I like both a lot. I’m getting too fat and old to look all over for a deer. I want something that will do the trick quickly. I tried the hornadys and didn’t care for the grouping and misfires. Appreciate the info.

You're blaming misfires in handloads on the bullet? Am I understanding this correctly?

No sir, they were not hand loads. They were off the shelf SST hornadys. None of the ammo I’m talking about were hand loads, they were all store bought ammo

If you need to anchor them, neck or high shoulder. Even with the best bullet, perfect double lung shot placement, and way more caliber than necessary, you’re going to have some go for a little run sometimes.

GunBroker.com usually has some sellers with 7-08 bullets for sale.

I bought a bag of 200 loose 140g boat tails a couple of years ago. They shoot great.
Seller said they are Sierra Game King. They look and weigh exactly the same as my Sierras from dealers, so I guess they are.

Holler if you need some.

So was the OP looking for 7mm-08 that gave pass through shots or was he looking to avoid pass through? Why am I thinking that one would not want a pass through and instead want a mushrooming? But I’m an old guy who can be taught new tricks.

Not sure why you are thinking this, but these are not mutually exclusive. There are a ton of great bullet offerings of these days, the key is to match the correct bullet to the correct application. Most Whitetail hunters want as much expansion as they can get while still getting pass-throughs for better blood trails, but not so much expansion that they risk the bullet completely breaking apart if it hits a bone. The good news is, Whitetail are pretty easy to kill, so there is a lot of room for error here, and many bullets that will get the job done.
