It may have been adopted by some Tiger fans who heard some Gator fans saying it. The first time I ever heard anything like it was in probably '95 or '96 when a Gator player (I think it was Lawrence Wright) said, "If you ain't a Gator, you Gator bait". Direct and factual quote, definitely from the mid-90's.
