This. It's like America in Mexico. The sport fishing is the only thing that props it up.

Kind of my thought as well.

Beautiful scenery, but very much "Americanized" for the most part. Plus, if you like swimming in the ocean Cabo isn't your place. What saved it for me was going to a small town outside the main section. Still somewhat "touristy", but it felt more authentic with mass going on in a catholic church while Mexican families played and entertained themselves in church/town square. Ate at a great little restaurant where the Mexican owners were casually sitting at a table with their friends while drinking wine/tequila and socializing like they were customers.

I'm glad I went...but don't really have any desire to go back. There are better tropical/beach vacations.

Alys beach is the Walmart crowd's attempt to imitate a trip to the Greek cyclades.

I will probably say Nashville,

Probably don't know where to look. Do you ever get off Broadway?

New Orleans.

Once upon a time, New Orleans was a wonderful place to visit, and probably to live. My first visit to NO was in 1974, when I started working in BR after graduate school.

NO now? E. A. Poe summed it up: "Quoth the Raven: NEVER MORE!"

can't imagine someone not liking these places unless you really know nothing about them. Disney is great for kids in the 7-18 range. As an adult, if your kids are independent enough to be on their own for a bit, take advantage and head over to one of the restaurants in Epcot or simply enjoy a drink in one of the lounges / pubs.
Incredibly crowded, long lines, and a total ripoff. What’s not to love.
Yes I know kids love it but this is from the adult perspective.

The Grand Canyon Gotta actually hike it to appreciate it.

This goes for every national park. Millions of people have been to Yellowstone and driven the loop. Out of sight of the road it's a completely different experience.

I would add Alaska by cruise ship. I was getting back to the Denali visitor center after a trek in the backcountry just as people were getting off a cruise line bus. Some of then were complaining about being cold. A few looked at me enviously. I had a scraggly beard, hadn't slept in a bed or showered in nearly two weeks, and was having one of the peak experiences of my life. The highlight of their day was going to be hitting the buffet back on board the ship.

Maui. Brown, dry, tourist-ridden shithole. Everything is an hour drive away

Kauai is worlds better than every other Hawaiian island

ETA: Food is complete shite on all the islands though. Stick to fruit and poke, trust me

I would bet you haven’t even been to all of those places, and I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that you haven’t been to ANY of them.

It’s a relatively clean and safe downtown. It’s very walkable. You have a massive convention center and the Alamodome that can host pretty much anything as far as size goes. It’s centrally located within Texas. It’s a short drive from the airport to downtown. There’s plenty of hotel space. I’m not raving about SA as a vacation destination. Personally, I think it has charm and lots of history, but I think it’s clear why it hosts so many major events.

I just find SA to be flat and ugly.. obviously the Hill Country is different, but im talking about San Antonio proper , where the trade shows and conventions take place .. San Antonio to me offers nothing that other generic cities like Houston, Cleveland and Kansas City cant offer .

Costa Rica. Straight piped shite into every creek, stream, and river. Western North Carolina has more environmentally sound area than that nasty shitehole.

Going to a spurs game during Duncan/Parker/ginobili would have been cool… that’s about the only reason I would ever go to SA
