HOW ABOUT THE UMPIRE CALLING THE RUNNER OUT THAT WAS HEADED TO THE DUGOUT? That led to a shite load of confusion. That home plate umpire was PURE shite.

Confused. Wasn’t he out by rule once he ran past the runner in front of him?

I think you’re wrong on this one…

quote:

When Runners Are Out…Any runner after reaching a base safely who leaves the base path heading for their dugout or defensive position, believing that there is no further play, if the umpire judges the act of the runner to be considered abandoning their efforts to run the bases Even though an out is called, the ball remains in play in regard to any other runner

Like I said, there are 100 reasons that could be explain that loss. Just pointing out one that seems to have been overlooked.

Just about everyone deserves blame tonight. Coaches and players were equally shitty and not focused. That many mental errors is inexcusable at this level.

Yeah I know that’s why he took him out there. He didn’t want him to slide at home. A third string player should no the situation there. You can not run until you see the ball hit grass.

Wouldn't that have been on Millazzo? He got the error and Collins let the ball go through thinking there was a play behind him at the plate.
Either way the game was a shite show
Dutton was left in 1 inning to long
A makeshift line up and Nicholls playing out of this world on defense is what got the Tigers
Let's go get 3 vs rammer jammer and calling a good week.

There seem to be two points of view:

A) One looks at mistakes or failures chronologically with weight given strongly to later acts in the game.

B) One that weighs at least the worst actions equally for costing the game.

I don’t know if there is a real answer or rule but I feel A is the most logical within reason.

BS. What Merrifield did was one of the stupidest things I've seen on a baseball field, and I used to coach Little League.

The guy heading to the dugout gave himself up right? I mean he was all the way back to the dugout! Shouldn’t that have been an out? Why make the fielder go that far off the base path to get an out? If he doesn’t chase him all the way back to the dugout then the run that scored doesn’t happen.

Yes, but if we call time or even just stand there at the plate, its eventually recorded as an out and the runner on third doesn't score. Add to that not paying attention to the runner on third and the fact its a live ball is just poor fundamentals. More excusable than the base running shite, but bad situational awareness in any case.

That’s horseshite. There were dumber things that happened in this very game an inning beforehand.

Merrifield paused on contact, thought the ball would land, and took off. It happens. He should have saw it down, but then he probably doesn’t score the winning run. I have little doubt there would be plenty of people bitching that he wasn’t aggressive enough if that ball falls.

For like the 50th fricking time, you don’t look at the base coach on a ball in the air.
you do if you read it as dropped IF YOURE CONFIDENT. This is t a halfway situation and watch. Game doesn’t work that way in that situation one out or not. Or if you’re aggressive like Johnson is about EVERYTHING. Otherwise he is hunting with Cade to tie it or told Pearson to bunt or whatever.

Johnson demands his players to be aggressive and Merrifield read it as a drop. Period.

Turning your back to tag a runner who is no threat to score while a runner is standing 75 feet from home is a worse plan than Merrifield’s, IMO.

That ball falls way more than it’s caught, and Merrifield wins the game. The other situation had extenuating circumstances, but Collins has to know to keep the guy on third in mind.

And there's still only one out and it's a tie game.

That wasn’t Milizzo. That was Travensky. Milizzo let the ball roll through his legs.

You should rewatch the play and see where the ss made that catch, that ball is pretty much always a bass hit and he’s moving up to score the winning run

Look FFS everything doesn’t have to be so damn polarizing For frick Sake.
Yes he screwed up. Everyone on the roster has.
Yes he still has the world in front of him, short memories.

He didn’t not screw up.

But when you commit to run, what else are you looking at besides 3rd base???

Regardless, Nicholls making 5 or 6 gold glove caliber plays in the field in a single play won the game for them.
