re: When will LSU get rid of the bleachers?

The 2006 one is where it got it’s current look.
ACHCHUALLY, it retains lots of its classic looks from its original state. No one could reasonably argue that the majority of its current look occurred in 2006. I wrote a piece on this in Sports Architecture and Sporting Clays Monthly where I educated people who naively state that 2006 is when it looked like it currently looked to point out that really the 2004 renovations gives most of its character but it ACTUALLY retains most of the original charm from 1996.
I'm actually not melting. I said LSU started the baseball stadium wars when it announced it was building a new stadium. Most everyone in this thread is discussing stadiums that are better that were built more recently. You then fake corrected me by referencing Baum which, while nice, isn't in the new park discussion, and South Carolina which basically opened with us and was influenced by the fact that we had been planning a new facility since before they were baseball relevant.

You don’t bring a whole grill with you to the game. Look at Mississippi St. they have grills built into their sections. You can go in a couple of hours before the game, drop off a couple of ice chests of beer and meat, leave, then come back for the game. It’s the same as tailgating is it not?
I guess I am just one of those weird people who just wants to come in the park to watch a game and can go 3 hours without a big meal that I have to cook myself and a beer.

Yeah, I'm fine. Just poking fun at your smarm.

I got it the first time. The fourth was a little much.

Typically that's when you go to the "upset" and "melting" tropes. I'm sorry ell, you just aren't that important. Just having fun at your expense.

Melt, beat a dead horse, etc. You didn’t address the point until you edited your post at the top of this page. The reason Baum is important is because it was and continues to be better than the box from the start. Founders, while built at the same time was done better in nearly every way. There’s no reason they should have been able to accomplish that. The Box was never a leader in anything except the players areas which I said. The offices, clubhouse areas, training rooms, all really cool to have on site. The fans got screwed.

But you didn't read my post that started this. My original post said we started the new stadium war and the only thing we gave a shite about was nostalgia and clubs. We wasted the opportunity. We have agreed throughout this thread, but your priority was to Pigsplain to me about Baum.
You read my original post, assumed I meant because we were first we were best or have only been supplanted because others came after. That's not what I said and not what I meant.
Here it is again:

LSU went first in the baseball stadium wars and prioritized nostalgia. They reimagined the old Box with a club and suites. The new stadium was never focused on most of the fans. It was to extract more out of big spenders. We also went cheap and didn't even finish out what we did invest in.
Most in conference new stadiums came after and focused on broader experiences. They didn't slavishly attack the project by saying how do we remake our old stadium but for some rich people too.

Baum started the war though. Skip was under pressure to do something better than what they had. He failed, we agree.

That’s a whole other issue like I mentioned. Tons of other schools have renovated or rebuilt since 2009. Some of them more than once. We continue to fall further behind. Soon it will only be us and Mizzou with bleachers.

I think it is reasonable to conclude that some improvements in recent stadiums are attributable in some way to a case study of what we did and learning from our myriad of failings.
Posted on 4/24/23 at 10:50 am to therick711
I think many places took what we did for the players and applied it. Texas A&M, Bama, Florida, Vandy… all seemed to focus on the players with their recent renos. As far as the stadium, they had plenty to learn from with Baum and Founders and even Auburn to an extent. Auburn and UGA are small parks but well built. UGA doesn’t have room to grow though and the scoreboard/speakers need to be updated asap.

LG, I think there are plenty of people that feel this way. Many stadiums have areas that cater to both kinds of fans. I think NAB catered to two types of fans when it was imagined, those that would be in the Champions Club and those that believed that OAB was the pinnacle of what housing a baseball game could be. I'm not sure we did much to advance the ball beyond that, though.

Imagine this does happen. I can the posts now about how LSU “cheaped out” by not putting in enough grills and now you have to show up 4 hours early to get “your” grill.

Why? This seems like a weird obsession. I have never once entered a ballpark and wished I had lugged my grill and a bunch of food into the park with me.
I mean it’s not an obsession. And as far as I’m concerned the university should provide me as a fan with built in world class grilling facilities.

As soon as you pay more to the TAF.

I could very well be wrong as well, but I feel like there's plenty of room back there. My seats are out in rightfield, so I've kinda check out that area.
I think in right field you have enough room to put a bullpen where the Planet Fitness sign is. Move the dignity back and I think there is room.
In left I think one set of bleachers would have to go to fit in a bullpen.

I may be wrong, but at State those are reserved for the season ticket holders who pay fir that privilege. I do not believe it’s open for general admission.

Alex Box is exactly what Skip Bertman wanted. We had the funds available to build something nicer for all fans BUT that is not what Skip wanted. Of course, without Skip we would not have needed a new stadium! :-)

Berms might look good on tv but they suck for sitting or standing. When sitting, you’re constantly being dragged downhill so always readjusting even if it’s just 1/2” at a time. It’s not comfortable after 3-4 innings and your butt will be hurting before the game is over. And, standing up for anything longer than a couple mins between innings is crap.
I don’t get the fascination except for kids running around & sliding downhill.
The solution: that is where the students sit and drink.
It also doesn't have to be just some random hill out there. Almost no one has that. Most "berms" at the newer/renovated parks are really just tiered/layered grassy areas for the most part.
