Hurd is getting worse every outing.

This is not a good development.
If what's been said about Shores is true, that means you're now starting Herring in the third game and you're now depending on some guys in the pen who haven't gotten consistent outs all year.
Bit scary.

Pitching will keep this team from winning it all

Oh no
Some of y'all finally realize our pitching staff isn't that good and deep...
Almost like some were saying that for a while now.

Little and Hurd have been disappointments

No you’re not. What a bad take.
Edit: Like Slackster said…Magician thought Hurd played the entire year in 2022

We have the entire month of April and most of May to figure out a dependable 3rd starter.
With the way our schedule lightens up, we have a good shot at doing just that.
Don’t forget, Ole Miss didn’t have their workhorse pitchers established until mid April last year.

Right about now do we seriously start missing Grant Taylor.

It might not be a high bar at the moment, but I thought he had better stuff last night than on Sunday. He actually made good pitches to all of the first three hitters, but the last two got lucky and found holes.
After that, his command escaped him again. But at least he through the inning. We really don't have any choice but to keep running him out there, though probably not as a starter on the weekend, in hopes that he rediscovers his stuff and command. If Shores is out right now, and we're having to use a committee of our best relievers to get through Sunday, that leaves us thin if Floyd happens to have a short outing on Friday. I don't think Ackenhausen is available this weekend, either.

Sounds like he has followed Money's implosion.

Little is really not doing any better either.

Hurd is still learning how to pitch and hes coming off injury. There is still plenty of time for him to continue to develop, improve, and gain confidence. We have 7 SEC weekend Series left. Plenty of time. Hurd has elite stuff just needs to tighten up the command a little. Both Johnsons are going to get Hurd where he needs to be. I'm not ready to give up on Hurd his stuff and talent is too elite.

10 running teams so often leaves questions in the bullpen, but its a good problem to have. Keep winning by 10 and you wont need a bullpen.

Hurd has a confidence problem right now. He does not know where his pitches will go. He has the talent and with CWJ can get this back on track IMO.
You can see the staff giving both Collins and Bucknam more opportunities. I was especially impressed with Bucknam last night as his FB hits 94-95 and his CB was sharp in the zone. I'm sure CWJ was calling those pitches as he threw FB's to get one out, and ALL CB's for the 2d K. Work your arsenal.
I'm sure Collins will pitch in Columbia as required, but I'm betting Bucknam gets his weekend opp during the next home series. Set the FR up for success.

I said this after the A&M series. Cooper, Money, Little, etc. are going to get hit in the SEC. Hurd has not proven to be the guy on Sundays. So now it's either Herring or Edwards on Sunday. So now it's even more crucial to get 7 innings on a consistent basis from Floyd and Skenes because the bullpen is the weakest point on this team.

Gavin guidry is wayyyy better than he has been used. So is the kid from Canada. They just needed reps.

Hurd can't find his release point. I think it's mechanical, to a degree, in that he's still just not completely used to his new arm slot and they also keep changing things (his windup was different one outing, he pitched exclusively from the stretch last night, etc). As a result, I think he's also lost some confidence. They seem to let him rip some weeks, then some weeks they're tinkering. Maybe he's not comfortable after pitching so they're trying to figure out how to rectify that. Playing the long game.
If Ack and Shores were healthy, I think maybe Hurd would go back to mid-week starter. I guess we could still slot Little in for game 3, but then you limit your pen arms. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hurd back out there for a game 3 until at least Ack is healthy.
