The Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful but slow.

100 miles of the BRP will take you 3-4 hours.

I've drove it one time. My father died in Russellville Alabama in 1979. I took the Trace home to Baton Rouge 44 years ago.

We use to drive it every Thanksgiving week to stay in a cabin at Tishomingo State Park (some of the prettiest trails in Mississippi).
Check out the Wichahpi Commemorative Stone Wall just into Alabama. It is the longest un-mortared wall in North America, and mostly built by one old Indian guy.

Watch out for deer at night!

He makes a short appearance on The Muscle Shoals Documentary, and talks about the place.

What??? Did they raised the speed limit? Last time I was on it the speed limit was 50, and you'd get a citation for 51 if they felt like it.

I am driving to Richmond, VA in a few days to speak and I am thinking about doing 100 miles on The Blue Ridge Parkway. If I do I will report back.

We did 140 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway back in October from W.Jefferson NC to Asheville. The color was spectacular! You will get up to almost 6,000 ft.as you climb the side of Mt.Mitchell.

I highly recommend it.

We drove it from close to Tupelo to Jackson last summer and it was the best miles on a long road trip. I love backroads anyway but the Trace was very nice. I did drive around 60 so next time I’ll slow down. I wondered about cops but got lucky I guess. I want to drive the whole thing now.

Use to be my neighbor, I lived down the gravel road beside the wall, interesting guy. He told me he has stones from every state and a lot of foreign countries in there. People ship them to him. He has worn out 2 or 3 Ford Rangers on it, constantly adding to it.

I can see the Trace from my house and drive it a lot obviously. Got a warning doing 84 on the way to Starkville once to see DAC in a damn dually. No clue how I didn't get a ticket. If the red headed cocksucker named Montgomery ever pulls you over though, prepare thy anus. He gave me and my brother 2 tix each for standing 3 feet inside the boundary shooting cans with a .22 on my neighbors property. Each ticket was a 250.00 fine. We didn't even notice the little sign as it was all grown up. I heard he got shipped to the border for harassing women he would pull over.

Natchez Trace is a great drive through history. From the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Cherokee, Natchez etc. Add to that the war of 1812, civil war, etc.

The road is well maintained but there is about a 40 mile section around Jackson built on sensitive soils so the road can get a little rough.

People have gotten accustomed to driving on 12-13’ lanes so the 11’ lanes can be unforgiving especially with softer shoulders. Enjoy the journey.

Loved Mr. Hendrix. I’ve known him since I was a kid fishing on the TN River with my dad. The wall is definitely one of my favorite places on the Trace. That entire area really from the wall to Rock Springs to Colbert Ferry. Lots of cool things in that area.

We camped at Rocky Springs for many years when the kids were young

One of my wife’s (no pics) siblings was married in the little Church there.
The cemetery next to the church is eerie as hell. The town of Rocky Springs was essentially wiped out by the yellow fever after the civil war. The cemetery is full of kids that died in 1878-1879ish time frame.

Rocky Springs MS History

quote:

Decline
The community of Rocky Springs began to decline during the Civil War, at which time Union forces passed through the area during the advance on nearby Port Gibson. [6] In 1878 the remaining inhabitants of Rocky Springs faced an outbreak of yellow fever. Later, valuable cotton crops were destroyed by an infestation of boll weevils, while at the same time farmers were struggling with severe erosion caused by many years of poor land management. In 1930, the last store closed, and the natural spring, from which the town took its name, dried up.[3]

It’s a very vague law but the cities dictate the open container laws but ms dosnt technically have an open container law. But there are dry counties so i don’t know how it applies there.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is Federal Property. When the Federal Parkway Ranger pulls you over for doing 8 mph over the speed limit and an open container. He's going to send you to Federal pound you in the arse prison

36 CFR § 7.43 - Natchez Trace Parkway

(d) Beer and alcoholic beverages. The possession of beer or any alcoholic beverage in an open or unsealed container is prohibited, except in designated picnic, lodging, residence, and camping areas.
