bought our first Frenchie from a breeder. The other 8 dogs I have literally walked up my driveway or were found in the road in front of my house.
People who dump dogs on the side of the road should be shot in the face. With extreme prejudice.

My wife wanted a French bulldog and found a breeder in Lake Arthur. We drove from Georgia to get it. Baton Rouge traffic-Basin bridge yada, yada, yada 23 hours later I’m back in Georgia.

We got our older dog from a woman who already had young kids and another dog so she couldn't take care of her. Got her about 10-11 years ago. Looks like she's got some GS and some beagle in her. Our other dog was a stray a neighbor to my cousin found. He's also a mutt, with likely Rat Terrier in him.

My golden doodle is smart, really great with people and is a super companion to the kids...but it sheds like you wouldn't believe. Not all Golden Doodles are hypoallergenic.

Golden doodles shed. If you want to minimize shedding, why not just get a poodle (which also shed, btw)?

If you want a specific dog, search that dog on google and find those rescues. Best of both worlds. Awesome that you take shelter/rescue dogs. Wish more people did it.
My next pup will be a doberman and they have a few rescues in Texas I want to check out.
Yeah, don't discard shelters just because you're looking for a specific breed. You might get lucky and find what you want from a shelter.

Mixing in the Golden Retriever dilutes the neurosis of the Poodle.

Christmas gift for my daughter in 2019. Animal shelter did a free day on Christmas eve, and she's been wanting a dog. I relented. She picked the most hyper dog available. A shepherd/terrier mix, she named him Scooby. I was really nervous about it. It would wreck my house, wreck my backyard, etc. The ride home he was as calm as a cucumber. Been the best dog we could have found. Came kennel and house trained, also neutered. 3+ years with the dog, maybe 3 accidents from being in the kennel too long during the day. His only weaknesses are extreme territoriality, and lacks social skills with rando dogs (dog parks are a nightmare). He's a pampered little shite who is part of the family now.

My wife (no pics) did research on our dogs (Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs) before we ever got one. Also, we went to a couple of dog shows, met breeders and interacted with their dogs to view temperament, bone structure, etc firsthand.
When we drove to SC to get our first puppy, I'm NGL, we pulled up at the breeders house and 7 full grown GSMDs come bounding around the house, barooing and barking. Pretty intimidating if you hadn't spent much time around the breed, since they weigh about 140-150 pounds on average.

My wife got our German Shepherd from the breeder that supplies the Sheriff Department. It was my birthday present. I didn't ask what she paid

Facebook for both. Chocolate lab mix, best dog I ever owned, was posted when a lady in Hammond took a stray in who then had a litter of puppies. She gave the puppies away for free. Next one, golden retriever/shepherd mix who is the wild one, was from a family friend who bred their purebred golden retriever with their German shepherd.

It’s a great resource for breeders and rehomes.

Oh I have. I’m actually looking for a non neurotic chihuahua, which pretty much means I gotta meet the parents. My last 2 pups (that I still have) were rescued as has pretty much every dog I’ve ever owned been with the exception of one.

Was this in LA? Looking for a red golden myself

non neurotic chihuahua,
Contact the rescues, do not get a puppy, ask the rescue or the foster how the dog's demeanor is (probably just as accurate as asking a breeder/meeting the parents). Branch out your search, it may be worth it to find rescues in a different state (I know people who have driven to Texas or Florida for example)
