The decline of the USA started in the mid-1960s with LBJ's Great Society.

And then in the 70s we abolished the gold standard and started our rise to being 40 trillion in debt. And then the government thought it was so great that they constantly spent money they dont have that they would make it so every American would have to rack up plenty of debt too to own a house/vehicle/business

I'd have loved a 4k 65 inch TV with a current Generation gaming console in 1995.

I never was much of a gamer past the original Nintendo/Atari days.

Korean War was brutal. There was the threat of nuclear war and a constant paranoia about communism. Culturally and economically it was a great time though. One of the best for sure.

The 90s was probably the pinnacle, or plateauing of American greatness and also a great time. And the Final years before people got addicted to phones and narcissism.

America became COOL in the
50’s. IMO it was the 80’s. I would give anything to live the 80’s again.

I don't know how anyone can argue anything but the 1990s.

- The Cold War had been won with the United States as the world's sole super power.

- The economy was booming and gas was cheap

- Technological innovation was taking the country by storm with the home computer and internet slowly becoming a staple of every day life

- The TV sitcom was in its golden age as network TV saw its last great decade before the advent of legendary shows on HBO, Showtime, and other cable television networks.

- Hollywood was churning out critical and commercial hits at rates never seen before. Many of the Best Picture nominees that decade ranked among the top grossing films for their individual years.

Certainly agree with you about the social aspects of technology, but I also can't help but to think that seemingly limitless entertainment options on demand are an overlooked negative influence also.

There's very little having to wait which means very little waiting in anticipation, which erodes the value. It's no longer special to watch your favorite film or tv show. On some level, that has to screw with peoples' internal rewards systems and greatly affect how they experience satisfaction.

100% this. Families had 2 parents, kids were raised to respect people.

True but the 60's also saw a major increase in the crime rate, not to mention the Vietnam war.

Many of you seem to think that race and social status was a major negative point about the era of the 50's. It had nothing to do with the era but rather with your particular locality in this nation and it remains so to this day. Face it, some people are just plain racist and or societal snobs, they were then and they are now.
I graduated from high school in 1954 as a common country boy and the only exposure that I had had to racism was that of a big city snob from Boy Scout camp that hated the colored fellows and "unclean" commoners that were in his charge. (We got him fired for it.)
There was no problem for the girls of any race except they had to keep chasing the suitors away.
Women in general were respected and protected unless they proved themselves not to be deserving of respect. Adult women could find employment if they so desired, although they were paid in accord with their abilities or their duties assigned rather than their personal opinions of their worth. (Females had not yet become highly active political thorns infecting our social and governmental entities and causing major "woke" style social and governmental disturbances in society.)
"You are what you eat." "If you sleep with dogs you wake up with fleas."
If you lived among social or racial snobs then you probably were one as well, and the same applies to this day.

Lived in Aspen in 90-91. All I heard about how great Aspen was in the 70’s and 80’s. Wished I had lived there then. Been back several times over the past 30 years. People tell me how great this time and that were over the last several years.

Finally realized that life is great most of the time. It’s all about the experience and the adventure you make it. When the minds ends the jealousy of the past and future, life becomes much more enjoyable.

“If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present”. Lao Tzu
