Don’t forget about having to wait all day and come back for “awards”

Which is a mystery to me. I’m be bern watching these for a while, and as far as I can tell, the team that wins first comes from the gym that pays for the most teams to enter the competition.

At least with travel ball, the winner is determined on the field and it’s obvious who won.

Of course. Not only food and drink, but ribbons, bows, glitter, outfits, t-shirts, souvenirs, other accessories... you name it.

Gotta buy the competition t-shirt. Logo on front, team names on back. $30.

Daughter dances - dance at 11 a.m. awards at 7 p.m. (if they are running on time)...such a pain.

Boys play sports - only make awards if they keep winning and know immediately as the game ends if they are going on.

With dance - no one ever knows until awards what the scores are so everyone has to wait around.

One good thing - we don't have to pay to enter the dance competitions at least.

Dance is the epitome of everyone gets a trophy and every group is at least "high gold" drives me up a wall.

Man that is heavy. Like travel baseball, soccer, and AAU. The money grab has exploded into every child sport and competition.
Went to an Elementary/Middle school Track meet at a public high school to see a nephew and the gate fee was $6/per. The place was packed with hundreds of people. And the concession stands were going full speed ahead too.

Where we live, there is no “rec” cheer or dance.

It’s called tumbling and can be found at any local gymnastics facility. Also, you should cheer for your school.

I just do not understand these non-team affiliated cheerleading squads. Like what the frick are you cheering for? Just to be loud?

o do the rec leagues still exist? For parents whose kids just want to get some fun and exercise and learn the game and sportsmanship? Y'know...like sports are supposed to be?

In Jefferson Parish, it still exists

I assume people do it so they can eventually make a school cheer squad. Honestly I think that is why travel ball exists as well.

I've got an epic rant ready against this cheer nonsense people throw money in to.

It's all crapola. Fugazi. The people who run it are the worst people you met in high school who never grew up.

AAU Basketball tournaments are big $$$$.

Small ones rake in 10s of thousands of dollars.

Volleyball, same thing.

Crazy what parents will pay.

Man, youth sports are a racket...

100% this. I was in your shoes last year. My daughter (no pics, fricking pervs) had a bunch of her friends in middle school decide they wanted to try out for cheer at her school. My wife (once again, no pics) thought it would be a swell idea for my daughter to get into cheer practice since she had never done it before just to get her feet wet before the tryout. We signed her up at a cheer studio by the house, which is literally slang for a money laundering operation for the lifted F250, White Oakley, truck nuts, tats all over crowd. I'm not really complaining about the clientele, I train BJJ and those same folks make up most of our school but it was quite comical watching these parents and how much money they spend to get their daughters ready for these so called cheer competitions which are really the end game for these cheer studios.

I will say if your daughter gets super involved with cheer, hopefully she can make the school cheer team where these cheer competitions kinda miraculously stop since there isn't enough time for these kids to do school cheer and these dumb shite competitions. Good luck!

There is an endless well of money if you can tap into people's vanity, especially parents trying to live vicariously through their kids.

And sometimes the parents aren’t the only ones getting screwed…

Forgive me there, but let’s not forget the place that used to be in a warehouse where Costco is now.

School cheer around here is just as competitive if not more than the all-star cheer. Practices 4-5 days a week almost year round, plus cheering at all the games and traveling to out of state competitions. There are hardly any schools lately that just have them cheer for the games without also doing competitions.
