Here is where I am at. Starting a new business. I am currently only employee but plan to hire 5 people in the next 6 months.
First - Purchased domain name through Google Domains
Second - Created gmail account using new domain name
Third - setup new email on Outlook as POP/IMAP
I have not purchased, installed, or done anything at all with Exchange or a server at this time.
I only discovered I needed Exchange or something new because my Outlook Calendar on my computer does not sync with my Outlook Calendar on my phone due to the POP/IMAP.
For what its worth I use 2021 Desktop version of Outlook and not Microsoft 365. When I click Data Files it ends in .ost
Also - Any help getting this resolved I am more than happy to pay for.

Are you paying for Gsuite or whatever their hosted mail solution is? For a startup/small business, hosted email is your most cost effective option.

You're gonna have to buy an office365 license and use that. Should be able to point your mx record. You do not want to deal with an exchange server for 5 people, you will need all sorts of backing for that, namely AD.
