Export all email to PST, configure new email client, attach PST and copy over?

There are a lot of questions...

What email program were you using with the POP/IMAP?
Do you mean you have set up your own Exchange email server or did whoever hosts your email move from POP/IMAP to Exchange?
Do you know if you were already saving your emails locally?

If you've already been using Outlook, open it up, go to File -> Account Settings -> Account Settings. Click on the Data Files tab and look at the file listed there. Does it end on .ost or .pst? Orrrr... does it just have your email address and say the location is "Online"?

I'll need to know this before we can go any further (because your answer will dictate which way we have to go).

Here is where I am at. Starting a new business. I am currently only employee but plan to hire 5 people in the next 6 months.

First - Purchased domain name through Google Domains
Second - Created gmail account using new domain name
Third - setup new email on Outlook as POP/IMAP

I have not purchased, installed, or done anything at all with Exchange or a server at this time.

I only discovered I needed Exchange or something new because my Outlook Calendar on my computer does not sync with my Outlook Calendar on my phone due to the POP/IMAP.

For what its worth I use 2021 Desktop version of Outlook and not Microsoft 365. When I click Data Files it ends in .ost

Also - Any help getting this resolved I am more than happy to pay for.

Are you paying for Gsuite or whatever their hosted mail solution is? For a startup/small business, hosted email is your most cost effective option.

So you’ve got hosted email with that subscription, meaning you don’t need anything related to Exchange. It would seem that you just need to add your new email to Outlook and can copy over all emails. Or you can go into current email and export all mail/contacts/calendar to a file (usually in pst) then make “new profile” in outlook and attach/import the mail/contacts/calendar. Once all copied over you can detach/disconnect the pst and delete the old email profile (or leave it for time period to be safe)

I've got the new email in outlook and its working perfectly. My only issue is when I add an event to my Outlook calendar on my computer it does not show up on my Outlook calendar on my phone. What I was told was this issue is due to the email being setup as a POP/IMAP and not an Exchange account. But I have no idea. I just need my stuff to be synced so I do not have to juggle two calendars.

Is your old email still setup on your phone? Have you checked to “show” your new calendar in outlook on phone?

I'm not sure what "old email" there would be. There wasn't an email to replace. This was all brand new.

When you set up your Outlook on your computer, did you set up your account for POP or Exchange?

Also, on your phone you will need to set your Outlook up via the Exchange option (not Outlook.com).

Are you sure your email is being hosted on an Exchange server?

When I open Outlook it actually says IMAP/SMTP (Swear it said POP) but now I don't see that. I have not done anything with an Exchange server. That is what I am trying to have done, I think. Basically I want my domain and email that I have purchased to be uploaded/added/converted or what ever it may need to become an Exchange account so my calendars are one in the same across all devices and that I can easily add new users as I hire employees.

Best of my recollection, you’re gonna need to configure outlook for smtp so mail/contacts/calendars are handled nicely.

It sounds like you purchased Google Workspace Business Basic. But should have purchased Microsoft 365 Business Basic. Microsoft 365 Business Basic includes Exchange. Exchange provides both email, calendaring and other collaborative features.

You're gonna have to buy an office365 license and use that. Should be able to point your mx record. You do not want to deal with an exchange server for 5 people, you will need all sorts of backing for that, namely AD.

This worked perfectly. Purchased Microsoft 365 this morning, imported my Domain over from Google and now all devices are in sync. Thanks for the help!
