Supreme Court rules rig worker entitled to overtime pay

Either going to start making more money or see day rates slashed to account for the increase in pay. Regardless, this could be something to watch

We can thank Judge James Ho of the Fifth Circuit for serving up this ridiculous reinterpretation of the law. Gotta side with the dissenters here.

Tough case to rule on, but I am of the belief that even salary employees deserve overtime when working more than 40 hours per week. Otherwise, companies will abuse their employees.

Yes. I dont know where this shite comes from

Maybe its because the only time people really see pictures from out here is when we have a nice Thanksgiving or Christmas meal. Our night cook last hitch literally re-heated the leftovers from earlier that day.

Pretty dumb of Helix to still be paying day rates. Most people moved away from day rates 8-10 years ago when the oilfield service industry got hit with (and lost) all these same lawsuits.

Didn’t this already happen in 2014 or so?

When I was a company man before Covid I was technically hourly but really it was a day rate.

Anyone working over 40 hours should get overtime pay. People need to shake the mentality that you owe a company blind loyalty and dedication. F that, American companies take advantage of workers way too often.

This will manifest itself in two ways:

1. Companies will adjust contracts and/or pay rates
2. Like everything else, price will be passed down to the end user
