I really hope the saints do not consider moving next years first to move up. They have a history of doing this and next years pick is most likely going to be a top 5 pick. I really hope that they have taken that pick off the table. That would be a disastrous move for a franchise that’s already made a bunch of disastrous moves.

The window is closed. Draft where you are in the first dont mortgage any more of the future.

I dont think we will.

I saw Jeff Ireland say something along the lines of "we look forward to doing more work in the 1st round"

Sounds kinda like a shot lol

We're absolutely going to attempt to move up for Young, Stroud, or Levis

based on? We only had 4 losses that were not 1 possession games. and those 4 losses were by 10,14,10,13.

Top 5 draft teams get their arse kicked on a regular basis. As shitty as this past season was, we were a few turnovers/dumb plays away from winning the division. Also, the South is going to be so bad next year that we may even be favored to win it depending on what we do at QB.

We could trade all of our picks this year and next year and we would barely come within range.

I agree. However, if a situation where their guy falls similar to the Mahomes one, they should do it. Not saying this staff has any idea about QB talent and can make that call. But I am not opposed to a big jump like that if it is for a QB they are all in on. Any other position is a fireable offense with this roster.

We'd have to include player(s). Probably not worth it.

I mean, several beat reporters said yesterday that 29 and 40 would get us to the 11-13 range. Next year’s 1st and 2nd almost assuredly gets you in the top 5, probably even top 3. Especially if it’s the Bears and you throw in Michael Thomas. Bears are desperate to pair Fields with a vet WR like Thomas or Hopkins.

I’m sure Indy could throw more picks at the Bears for #1 and outbid us. But the Saints could be very aggressive if Young and Levis go early and someone like Stroud falls to 4-5. Or just trade with Arizona to number 3 and hope the Bears stick to number 1. I’m not a huge believer in any of the guys outside of Stroud and Young and I have a feeling they’d be the only two we’d be very aggressive in moving up for. That means going for 1 or 3. But 3 puts you in a bad situation if the Colts or Panthers jump ahead to 1 overall, which would probably happen if the Saints pulled the trigger BEFORE the draft and not during

Well get ready Junior because we all know that’s all he knows how to do. I think he just gets tired of having to think about the draft so he just traded all his picks away at first chance. Moving up for a non QB, LT or DE is always a mistake and still usually is anyway. This should be the year to trade out of that 1st to a team wanting the 5th year option that it provides and gather a couple more top 75 picks. This team needs cheap, young talent to get out of cap hell. We aren’t one player away, even if that’s a QB that we hit on. There are holes all over this roster. It’s why Sean got out while the gettin was good. He saw the writing on the wall back in 2019. If he had his way he would be going into year 3 with his new team, not year 1.

Now you've done it lol

Yeah we need to accumulate more pics than we normally have over the next couple of years to help with cap. Hopefully the recent win now mode is temporarily suspended for a while.

I'm okay with us trading it away for next year so we can load up on picks in 1 draft in case we need to trade up for a franchise QB.

Check this chart:

Here's the value of our draft picks this year:

2023 Pick 29 = 610
2023 Pick 40 = 500
2023 Pick 71 = 235
2023 Pick 112 = 70
2023 Pick 143 = 34.5
2023 Pick 163 = 27.2
2023 Pick 205 = 10.4
Roughly worth 1,487 points.

Looking ahead to next year... Picks lose roughly 1/2 of value year over year in draft day negotiation. So let's theorize that we end up with pick 16 next year. I'm going to assume Denver ends up with the pick after us in the 2nd round as well:

2024 Pick 16) = 500 (1000/2)
2024 Pick 48 = 210 (420/2)
2024 Pick 49 (VIA DEN) = 205 (410/2)
2024 Pick 112 = 35 (70/2)
2024 Pick 144 = 17 (34/2)
2024 Pick 176 = 11 (22/2)
2024 Pick 208 = 4.4 (8.8/2)
Roughly worth 982 points

So the entire value of all of the picks we currently own in 2023 and 2024 = 2,469 points. That's good enough for Pick 3, but not Pick 2. We couldn't even guarantee ourselves CJ Stroud at that point. For two entire drafts.

Why?

Either trade up and get (hopefully) a franchise QB or tank hard to draft one next year. It’s time.

If you really like a qb that falls it would be perfectly ok. However any other position is off the table for a move. We’re not one piece away or even 5 pieces away.

We have to move up or trade out - every team needs to either suck horribly or find their franchise QB.

This is not a BPA draft for us.

We should cut Thomas, trade Kamara, trade back in the draft and start a rebuild
