They are planning on widening Lee Dr. between Highland Rd. and Perkins Rd. But only to three lanes. In my opinion that is useless. It will help a little bit but is useless overall. If you have ever driven down Hwy. 73 in Prairieville you will understand what I am talking about. I realize that most of the yards of the people that live on Lee Dr are small but only adding a turn lane is useless and will only help the traffic flow minimally. But they are going to add bike lanes and sidewalks :banghead. If that’s what they are spending the 35,000,000 on, it would be would be cheaper to just add a turn lane leading up to the intersection’s and at Lee High School and save a lot of money. If they are going to have to spend money to move all the utilities why not at least make it a four lane with no turn lane. Installing sidewalks is useless. I very rarely see people walking on Lee Dr. to warrant putting sidewalks on each side of the road
DOTD is useless

Edited to add this is a MoveBR project and not a state project
Edit #2. My point is that if you don’t put sidewalks and bike lanes, a four lane road would not take up anymore of their yards than the three lane already planned

Sad that they add bike lanes so the thugs can ride to better neighborhoods to rob them

This is a MovEBR project, not state DOTD, but your points are valid.

The MovEBR organization is utterly useless, in stark contrast to the old Green Light program managers, who actually got things done in a timely manner.

Probably because there aren't any sidewalks.

These retards think that BR is going to be some kind of bike-friendly-commuter city and are willing to piss away 10's of millions of dollars to prove what everyone already knows.

4 lanes would be nice, but I just don't think they have the room. A center turn lane will be a drastic improvement, though.

I don't think a 4 lane is possible unless they start seizing homes to demolish

A turning lane will make a massive amount of difference on that road, but it's only a band-aid. If you're going to do the job, do it right. Go ahead and take the homes to build it out to 4 lanes with a turning lane in between because they'll have to do it eventually anyway. Why double the cost by doing it in (essentially) two phases?

Same argument was made reagrding the homes on Staring but the 4 laned it anyway which has been a huge improvement for the area

I love Southdowns but the congestion hinders growth. Having a good artery could revitalize the entire neighborhood

To be fair, this was the plan agreed upon by the neighborhood.

Expanding to 4 lanes was an option and was shot down by the neighborhood.

Not sure why we are complaining about bike lanes though. Especially with the new lane going down hyacinth.

Perhaps because it's a heavy trafficked two lane road. It would be incredibly dangerous as is.

A four lane road with the limited yard lspace would result in some me bad results… people would be flying down that road

If the "turn" lane is anything like the one they put on government st it will be useless and might cause more navigation issues.

If they can do 3 lanes, 2 bike paths and sidewalks then they can 4 lane it.

The bike paths in Baton Rouge are a fricking joke anyway. They are always full of dirt and debris from the cars because they are just shoulders and not actual bike paths. You need to do more than paint a line to make a bike path.

They should 4 lane it, screw the bike path, put a wide sidewalk that can handle bike and pedestrian traffic. You only need the sidewalk on one side of the street.

Making Lee 4 lanes between Perkins and Highland would be stupid. If you were headed to 10 from Highland/Nicholson you still have the cluster frick known as College drive and going the other way Nicholson/Brightside

I travel Lee Drive on occasion and in general I can maintain 30 mph and the only hiccup is at the light on Hyacinth.

I think a two lane road with a center lane from Perkins to Liberty High with four lanes from Liberty High to Highland Road.

Yes to sidewalks. No to bike paths except ftom Liberty High South across the Bayou and along the bayou to behind the school.

I think something like that would work well and be a big improvement.

Why do all this useless chaos and destruction? Can you imagine having to live on Lee Dr. ? Damn noise and traffic all the damn time.
My radical solution to improve the traffic flow on Lee Dr. is to permanently take the bridge out that crosses Bayou Duplantier and make that street a Dead End. That will solve the traffic congestion and it won't cost as much as that wastefull widening project.

Essen Ln . should be a dead end too.

But, with 4 lanes, you're going to have much more faster moving traffic that will be very close (almost dangerously close) to homes. If you takes that space up with walkers and bicyclists, the safety is significantly better.
