IF that's the case, then College athletics will be done. Open season for "Free Agents" every offseason. Hell, even pro sports making millions don't have this kind of freedom.

My question is, as an organization, why doesn't the NCAA have a right to state their participation regulations as any other private organization. Courts have held up the NFL's draft entry rule (3 years after HS class grad) so why can't the NCAA put in rule to sit out a year. You can transfer all you want, but to participate in the member school athletics, you will have to sit out a year. They would be still allowing the athlete to transfer, just have some rules and penalties that must be followed.

It now seems that 18-22 year old athletes in college now have more "power" then even the head coaches. Yes, the coaches can move around and most have buy-out clauses built into the contracts as a penalty for breaking the contact. (we can agree that now most coaches negotiate the payment of the buyout as part of the contract with new school. But the school still receives some compensation for the coach leaving), Players now can leave without any penalty at all and many can hold an athletic dept hostage and threaten to leave. There needs to somehow be some regulations that need to be followed to stablize the sports.
