The trade partner is likely going to be Denver

Other than the Rams (if it opens) this would be the worst scenario for the Saints but ultimately one where their hands are tied because they can't trade Payton to any team they want.

Likely trade:

Round 1 Pick from 49ers (Likely #30 or higher)
Round 3 Pick
Cash
2024 Round 1 Pick (but most likely will be a 2nd or 3rd)

The Saints need draft picks to build this roster and won't pass up having 4 selections in rounds 1-3. I also think Loomis' friendship with Payton will interfere with business decisions.

My hope is Dallas and LA Chargers suffer playoff losses that have both franchises wanting to go opposite directions. I do think Payton would charge either of those destinations over Denver.

My dream scenario would be the Texans and I hope the unchecked power would appeal to Payton.

I really want a 1st round pick so I can get excited for the NFL draft.

I really think chargers will go after Payton if they lose and would’ve been smart enough to mention that to him by now.

Cardinals come in with the 2023 1.3 pick, 2024 3rd round pick, and Maxx Williams

I doubt Payton wants to play Mahomes and Herbert 4 times a year with a rapidly declining Russell Wilson for the next 3 years.

He is not going to Denver. That is a fact.

Still having a hard time understanding why not. Especially if you aren't even in the market for a franchise QB.

I'm just not. Would we not have given up a 1.2 in 2006 for Payton if we knew what kind of coach he was?

Pretty sure you can't trade a coach for a player.

I seriously doubt coaches at this level have a coward-mentality and more than likely want to beat them instead of avoid them.

Up for debate but they would want Payton to bring him back to form

Because teams don't trade away top 3 picks in the draft

Because you actually need good players to also be competitive? Which Arizona is lacking a lot of.

Teams don't trade away proven Super Bowl winning coaches either

Give me the 49er pick and an 3rd and agree to take Michael Thomas off my hands and give me Jerry Jeudy in a separate trade and we got a deal.

This is such a challenging situation for them, though. Do you really fire a playoff coach just for a chance to interview a coach you want?

I think you’d have to back channel it. Herbert is by far the best qb he’d have the chance to coach.

I they were 11-6 a year ago. They need Murray to perform and Payton will contribute to that more than any player they’ll get at 3z

That Super Bowl is going on 14 years now.

The Mike McCarthy comparisons carry weight.
