What are the rules to schedule a week zero game?

Is it possible for FSU to schedule one next year?

Would it be possible for LSU to schedule one next year?

Thanks.

To schedule a week zero game you either have to play at Hawaii or have an opponent on your schedule that directly plays at Hawaii that season

don't need a Week Zero game. Stop with all this nonsense. Playing a glorified high school team won't do a thing for us, and would open up risk of injury.

A quality coach like Kelly will have us ready Week 1.

It’s not just play Hawaii it’s having a game at Hawaii you are allowed to schedule a week zero game to get an extra bye week for the week after you travel there.

To the OP no Florida State does not have a week zero game this year.

So with that rule - and looking at the current LSU and FSU 2023 schedule, there is no way either team can schedule a week zero game without changing opponents... And to change opponents at this point is highly unlikely.

So why are there so many folks posting about hoping FSU doesn't schedule another week zero game next year?

Friend - who in this thread said anything about needing to schedule a week zero game? I just didn't know how it works, and was asking what the rule was....

Florida State beat us. Get over it.

Because the idiots on this board for some reason think that Florida State scheduling a Week Zero game last year was some kind of dirty, rotten trick, and that we should be mad about it.

Look - I know we are on a free message board, and reading comprehension isn't the highest here.... but what could possibly make you think I am overhyping it? Or that I am obsessing over it?

I have never post anything about it in my life - I saw a bunch of people talking about it, and wondered if anybody knew the rule.

Essentially if you play at Hawaii, the NCAA says you can schedule an extra home game to recoup the costs, which means there are some teams that play 13 games. Those teams obviously have to play a week 0 game to fit a full schedule with a bye week. If you are on the schedule for one of those teams then potentially your game against them will get moved to week 0, which gives you an extra bye during the season.

My post wasn't just aimed at you. There have been hundreds of posts about Week Zero games for the last six months.

FSU played Duquesne. Duquesne played Hawaii. Because Duquesne played Hawaii, they were able to add a week 0 game to their schedule. FSU was their opponent.

Well LSU is 0 and 3 vs teams who played a tune up game before ( week zero game) week one.

VA Tech - 2002 played Arkansas st
UCLA - 2021 played Hawaii
FSU - 2022 played Duquesne

Arizona St played Temple before playing us in our season opener. Granted we were supposed to play North Texas before them, and also play in BR, but Katrina happened.

We won though so stop with the excuses.
