Documentary -
Dec 9 2019 eruption of Whakaari volcano off the coast of New Zealand.
2 tour boats had gone to the island when it erupted. One boatload had just left, while the tourists on the 2nd were just heading back to the boat. 21 either died on the island or from their injuries. Not overly graphic, but there were some disturbing stories.
Aside from the tragic loss and the awesome yet deadly forces of nature, there's a window into the heartless nature of the bureaucratic / gov culture that exists in New Zealand. Just terrible.

Not gonna lie…I’m not dumb enough to tour an active volcano, spewing endless amounts of steam, located 20 miles offshore.
I watched this documentary this morning. While what happened was tragic, at some point common sense needs to prevail.

That eruption was wild to see on film. Its hard for one to even imagine experiencing that in person and up close.
That island looks badass though.

We watched this the other night, pretty tragic story. Wouldn't have been us, though, people nowadays have been conditioned to ignore actual signs of danger. Sulfur discolored rocks, a lake of acid, hot bubbling earth, venting steam, black smoke, etc., etc. The wife and I would have never set foot on an active volcano island, we've been to Pompeii. Don't mess with nature, you might get Krakatoa-ed.

“Mother Nature” - so reductionistic.
USA couple - annoying “ugly Americans” as usual being self referential.

Wife and I enjoyed it. Unimaginable that this was offered as a cruise excursion I wonder if the cruise lines were sued? We also noticed out of the 21 people that died that 2 families were literally taken out. Good watch and getting burned the way some of the survivors did Damn.

Those helicopter pilots are badasses.
Clear the airspace around the island
"If nobody is coming we'll do it ourselves"
Do not land at the hospital. Go to the airport.

The American couple annoyed me

What's worse is those people had to endure a 90 minute boat ride back to shore with severe burns, getting splashed with ocean water.
Kill me.
Kill me.
