10 years, minus time served
quote:
After the U.S. Supreme Court's 2020 ruling on split verdicts, Gasser was granted a new trial. Prosecutors and Ciolino spent the next year battling in court over whether the state could retry him on the murder charge.
The Louisiana Supreme Court ultimately ruled earlier this year that Gasser couldn't be retried on the murder charge, citing double jeopardy laws which bar a person from being prosecuted twice for the same crime.
Gasser will receive credit for time served, Ciolino said, though he wasn't sure exactly when his client might be eligible for release from prison.

I am not following this.. Why did he plead guilty if he could not be retried ?

When u get out of ur car to argue, you always run a risk with these gun nuts.

But the La Supreme Court said that those convicted on split-verdicts do not get new trials.
Apparently the USSCt said that they do, or at least this guy does.
Seems like everyone else should get a new trial if this guy does.

What’s the actual story of what happened? Dude road raged w/ McKnight, got out, approached, and shot him? Or both got out? Fight? Tragic and pointless, but i don’t remember full details. TIA
