11.9 million through the holiday so far. It cost $180 million to make. It will gross less than Lightyear.

Why? Full woke.

Climate change metaphor.
Almost no white characters.
Main teenage character is gay and has a SO.
Biracial parents.

None of these are a problem on their own. It’s that they’re the focus of the story for much of the film. So Disneys main target audience isn’t going to pay money to be preached to.

2 of them have no business in a childrens film.

The other two when forced because "representation matters to bigots" are a problem also.

I think it’s more that the marketing was horrible.

I saw plenty of ads for it and I still had zero idea what it was about, or any interest in finding out.

Can't wait to see how they try to blame this on conservatives

I always forget that the following films were total bombs that no one went to see:

Happy Feet
Wall-E

And Avatar

I’m waiting for the usual suspects to show up and declare there’s no such thing as wokeness.

An amazing concept is to market your product to the people who have the money willing to spend on your product. The people this appeals to apparently do not want to support it

81m votes!

Evidently it’s a lot easier to create votes than to create money. On all metrics the left can’t lie, cheat or steal on, they lose big. Kind of makes you wonder…

I'm gonna be honest, I had zero idea the main character was gay or anything like that.

I saw the full trailer for the movie a couple of times, and it didn't look interesting to me in the least bit. Hence, I will likely never watch it.

Excuse my ignorance, but I had no idea animated films could be this expensive. That seems crazy to me. I would think only live action movies would cost this much.

No. That’s not it and never will be. Nothing about that movie looked good.

Eventually the powers that be will learn to stop catering to the minuscule percentage that is the “woke”.

The left is underrating the wokeness of the film and how its affected sales and the right is underrating the lack of marketing of this movie and how it has affected sales.

This movie had barely any marketing, wokeness aside.

To quote Brie Larson - "It wasn't made for you".

And so I won't be watching.

See what happens when you attack fans and disrespect the general public? They don't go see your stuff. And then you fail. Bigly.

Several publications labeled the film a box office bomb, with The Hollywood Reporter saying was "the worst opening for a Disney Animation Thanksgiving title in modern times" and Variety calling it a "catastrophic result for Disney" and projecting it would lose the studio at least $100 million. The poor opening was blamed on poor audience reception, middling critical reviews, and lackluster marketing compared to other Disney animated films.[21][22][23]

Correct. If a good story were incorporated or these issues dealt with in a thoughtful, creative fashion it could be a positive. I would have concerns about how they deal with it in product directed at children, but that's a different question for a different time.

But, what we have here is diversity as both a substitute for quality storytelling and some sort of #Woke shield against criticism of the product.

That is the current Hollywood (particularly Disney/Marvel) game plan, frankly going back to roughly 2016 "Ghostbusters".

You have to wonder at what point will Disney decide to stop losing money on woke garbage and start producing quality content again

I have a feeling that these studios putting out this woke crap are being subsidized by the fedgov to get this messaging out there.

I haven't watched the trailer but looking at the description this doesn't seem to be a focal point. Is this ONE metaphor or the entire movie being a metaphor about climate change? If I had a kid I probably wouldn't let him watch this if the main character is LGBTQ (and this flopping makes me smile), but kids do need to learn about climate change because science is a real thing
