I'm sure some people here already knew this. I found out from listening to him on Theo Von's podcast.

quote:
We’re on a mission to help close the skills gap by challenging the stigmas and stereotypes that discourage people from pursuing the millions of available jobs. We’re redefining the definition of a good education and a good job, because we don’t think a four-year degree is the best path for the most people. We want people to understand the impact of skilled labor on their lives, and we’re convinced that the solution has to start with a new appreciation for hard work.
Each year, we give away a modest pile of money through the Work Ethic Scholarship Program to help people get trained for skilled jobs that are in demand. We’ve proven that opportunities in the trades aren’t alternatives to viable careers – they are viable careers. Through this program, we encourage people to learn a useful skill, and we reward those who demonstrate that they’ll work their butts off. When it comes to hard work, there is no alternative. Since our inception, we’ve granted, or helped facilitate the granting of, more than $5 million in Work Ethic scholarships and other like-minded programs or initiatives that also work to close the skills gap.

He tells Theo about getting sperm from a bull.
I only listened to the first 20 mins of it so far, but that dude is pretty genuine and kind of funny.

I think I heard once that he was having trouble finding people to give the money too

Mike Rowe has a fantastic podcast

yeah i think hes been doing this for awhile.
he was actually catching a lot of shite from blue collars for it at one point. calling him a phony etc for being a lib art trained guy doing this and just seeking attention. Guy just honestly thinks it takes all kinds to make the world work and wants to give credit to folks who do hard work and promote trades.

It's pretty hard to disagree with that stance and outlook.

Growing up I thought Mike Rowe and Chris Fowler were the same person. I was always confused how he had the time to broadcast ESPN games and host Dirty Jobs.

I'd support taxes being switched from university scholarships to vocational training scholarships.

The “trades” have been immune to export that has killed the intellectual jobs. The guy in India does a pretty good job of engineering and programming. It does take ATP and energy to think and perform mental task you know. I am, however, not sure if sleeve tattoos are required though?

I got to know Mike through SkillsUSA and attending the national convention where my company had a booth near the welding competition. I've never met a more genuinely nice person, and his work to close the gap in the skilled trades has been extraordinary.

He's a good dude. Sadly, some hate him for it.

I'd vote for him for president

Mike Rowe is a good and genuine dude. Agree that he is an American treasure. Need more people in the world like him

Liberals fricking hate him. I don't know why. He is doing what the left claims to do; supporting working class lifestyles and careers. Labor unions should be sucking his dick.

“The Way I Heard It” is a wonderful podcast. Mike Rowe is hilarious and has a way with words.
