In District 7 my analysis is 1) if you’re happy with the status quo and think the EBR system is doing well, vote for the incumbent (Gaudet) 2) if you’re not happy with the status quo, vote for an effective leader and business owner who tirelessly serves the community (Wall).

The 3rd candidate, a Democrat, is not a factor in this race.

I’m curious the motivation for people to be elected and serve, outside of just being a good person.

I've been wondering this a lot lately. In most states, school board members receive only a very small stipend and no benefits. They additionally have to attend DOE trainings. In a few states, school board members are paid a decent salary, so interest makes sense in those cases.

It's such a tedious, thankless job, I'm surprised there are actually enough people to run against each other to serve.

First time in at least 12 years all 9 seats are being contested.

Minor salary, about $800/month. No pension. Most of us just care about kids. I am 69 years old. No other political ambitions for me.

Thank you for the clear information

Sorry Sir, no retirement for school board members. Plus no kick-backs.

Have a really really hard time believing that. Are you still feeling as confident about Sito when you vouched for him before and when he was hired?

What are you thoughts on "Day of hope?"

The school system is one big day of hope mess.

They need to just do away with the board and school system.

Give the money to charter schools that can taylor the schools, to the area they service.

If this board represented the parish why are they not building new schools in the SE and SW part of the parish where there is growth.

The service they provide is horrible and unacceptable.
There should be a vote to let homeowners in areas of the parish underserved by the school board to opt out of paying school system taxes.

With the upcoming elections, ALL the commercials are pro this or frick that. I wish they would not allow election commercials ever. But, I know it’s necessary. I hate politics.

Hello Johnny, You will be happy to know that two large plots of land have recently been purchased in the southern part of the parish. One, near Siegan and Perkins, will be a new high school (or 6-12). The other, just further south on Perkins, will be a new elementary school (or K-8). Plus, EBRPS is reclaiming back the Kenilworth site from a BESE charter and will be reopening a K-8 school. Also, Mayfair and Glasgow are scheduled to be torn down and completely rebuilt. I agree, the southern part of the parish has been neglected but we are doing something about it.

Did you know that there are 24 charter schools with BESE scores. No "A", 1 "B", 6 "C" and the rest "D" and "F". 71% of charters are D or F, a much higher % than EBRPS.

Yes, I am very confident about Dr. Narcisse. Change is hard and many people do not like it, particularly when their ox is being gored. But we need to change for the sake of our children, all children. I support Dr. Narcisse more and more. Is he perfect, of course not, but he has accomplished more in 18 months that we did in the prior 5 years.

Day of Hope was well intentioned but poorly executed and monitored. I also feel many issues were blown way out of proportion by some people. Everyone makes mistakes but these will not be repeated.

Is there a place online to see these scores? I tried searching yesterday and didn't see anything. I have an idea which is the B. And curious if it's rated as a combined with the 2 campuses

It was unconstitutional Mike

Also can you explain why the number it cost to put that little powwow on for Baton Rouge's best and brightest, just so happened to come a little under what was needed for approval?

Enrollment is down to 33,000 students.

Why does the EBRSS need to purchase more property. I’d have guessed that there would be surplus properties all over the parish.

I do understand why you would repair or even rebuild schools, but why new schools on sites you have to purchase? That seems like a waste of money.

I was thinking of hosting a legit job fair not that day of hope trash.

It does cost.
- portable toilets
- security
- food

It is really hard to accomplish in this parish and lack of support.

The day of hope was not a legit job fair with companies ready to hire.

@DoubleB - Why does EBR need more schools? Because here in SEBR we are bursting at the seams. For decades the southeast portion of the parish grew but at the time the powers in downtown didn't want to invest the new money out "in the sticks".

Now, SEBR is trying to play catchup. There's barely any room at all in our existing schools no matter the grade (elementary, middle, high) but we're making do as best we can.

Our representative, Jill Dyason, in District 6 (which covers Woodlawn, Shenandoah, and BASIS Materra) has been fighting to get us some new schools. Like Mr. Gaudet said earlier, the board has approved two new schools down here to help alleviate some of the crazy overcrowding we have.

I think Jill's done a great job for District 6 - the only district I really care about. I don't follow the other district politics. I care about the two schools my kids attend. We've got a new gifted program at Shenandoah for pre-K and all our public schools offer advanced curriculum for both Gifted & Magnet students.

I'm voting to put Jill back in for her last term (term-limited).

The question is, out of all East Baton Rouge parish, why is Bloomberg, Netflix, and other outside money focusing solely on the EBRPSS races (not Zachary, Central, or Baker)?

Bumping this thread for this prediction.

Honestly seems like a huge advantage to be listed first on the list of candidates, especially given our mostly brain dead population.

I don't trust these scores at all.
