I like Middendorf's in Manchac and Spahr's in Des Allemandes better.

But in the city of New Orleans, Barrow's (Earhart Blvd near Carrollton) might be the best bet.

ETA: The River Shack has some excellent fried catfish. It's on the appetizer section of the menu. Comes with fries and is easily a big enough portion for one person.

Middendorf's in Manchac

I like thin fried catfish, but the last 2 times I stopped at Middendorfs in Manchac, it was so thin that you could not see anything inside of the batter. There was no taste of fish. It was like fried batter chips.

Barrow's is real good but it's not thin fried.
