Good news...maybe the bandwagon will be a little less crowded and some of the front-runners will disappear for a while. We will see who the real fans are this weekend at the Tulane game.

Anyways, many idiots post their delusional bullshite here. I am not an idiot...and here is my rational, unemotional evaluation.

1) The QB situation. People need to be more patient with Lee. Do I wish he would quit throwing TD passes to the other team? Yes. However, this guy has demonstrated enough upside to make me believe that he is gonna be really good. He had a subpar game yesterday. It happens. We are just going to have to take our lumps with him sometimes and experience his growing pains with him. It wasn't supposed to be his turn this year, and I think he has done well given the situation. As for Hatch, I like what he can bring to the table coming in for a play or 2 here or there and running. I like how Crowton uses him. Should he be in the game in obvious passing situations? Hell no. Should he "never see the field again" like some of the geniuses here suggest? No. He can be very valuable and I like his role.

2) The defense. I really thought the idea of the 2-headed defensive coordinator situation would not be a big deal. I was wrong. We are getting out-schemed. Does that make Peveto and Mallory idiots, like people here suggest? No, it doesn't. They are good football guys who bravely took on this situation and appear to be in over their heads. It happens. Miles made the decision to go this way and we will see if he rectifies it at season's end. I would love to see the 2 co's stay around...they are good coaches and would be fine coaching positions as they previously did, but I don't know if that will be possible. For whatever the reason, no individuals on our defense are better than last year...they are either about the same, or worse.

3) The effort. Despite the negative outcome, I was proud of the team. They never quit, on either side of the ball. Lee didn't go completely in the tank after some of his mistakes. That is good. We need him to be strong. The players seem to be mad and want to be better. I heard Derry Beckwith on the postgame. He sounded angry and like he wanted to go out and get after someone. That is good. Miles will not "lose" this team.

4) The fans. For pre-game, I didn't sense a lot of noise and anticipation. Don't give me the bullshite excuse about the day game and not being pumped up. That place should have been raucous in the minutes leading up to the game. It wasn't. Shame on the fans who left early in the 4th quarter. Way to quit on the team. Hope you beat the traffic. That is so important. Kudos to the real fans who stayed.

That is all.

Great post.... I agree, we knew going in this was going to be a rebuilding year.

If we beat Bama, everyone will forget these 2 loses. If we dont we should be in a great position to contend next year with a more experienced QB.

I for one will never leave the game early.

Geaux Tigers.

LSUGrad9295,
Excellent post and your assessment of this year's team and the patience (or lack thereof) by front running fans is "dead on". I'm in total agreement with you.

1. Your best defense is your offense. We have a vanilla offense. I understand Lee is young, but he has had two years to learn. How to play LSU???? I would put eight in the box and you would have to beat me with the pass.
2. Defense is weak weak weak. The biggest difference is the play of our corners and safeties. The co-coordinators have chosen to play soft on the corners. We always spot about a 5 yard cushion. Good teams will pick you apart with the quick pass. Your defensive line is now non-existent. What happened to tight coverage and the bump and run? Now about the blitz. We have the same blitz package just about every time. We use to blitz any single one at anytime. Safety blitz? Corner blitz? Left outside linebacker, etc. We send our linebackers most of the time if we do decide to blitz. The center of our field is open most of the time. We look confused on defense. We are always looking at our arms. Our corners are not that bad. It coaching that has them confused. Remember a lot of these guys made big plays in the national championship game.
3. We should beat all average teams. We will lose to the good ones because of the defensive schemes we run with our corners and lack of pressure from all over the field. Offensively, we should be better. Last game interceptions were the fault of the quarterback and no one else. He threw into double and triple coverage. We will win most remaining games, but lose to Bama and Ole Miss. Nutt and Saban are good coaches that will pick our corners apart with the soft coverage and throw over the middle which is always open.

I'm glad to hear this. With the talent we've got, the team can come out of this season in good shape provided it doesn't lose heart. That never-say-die attitude is what I've liked most about the team under Les Miles, and it's essential to maintain this spirit if we're to move forward in the coming years. I'm not panicking, I think we'll be fine.

I beg to differ. You must have not been at the game. On Lee's last interception, Lee stood flatfooted after the pick and make no effort to go after the LB to stop him from scoring. Most of the rest of the offense did the same (nothing!) except Big Herm. You're not being honest with yourself by this conclusion.

Good job LSUGrad. I like the optimism. While the NC hopes for this year may be over, there's still a lot to play for and I also was proud of the fact that the Tigers, including Lee, had no quit in them. Geaux Tigers!

my main problem with your post is that you actually think peveto and mallory are doing a good job. they are not. they are failing and peveto fails all the time.

they should not be back in any form that is just crazy. I don't give a frick if they are doing the best they can. I'm sorry at LSU I expect results and not just to hear well im in over my head and i gave it the best i could. No sorry that is a ole miss excuse not a LSU excuse.
