quote:Let's talk about this. To each his own? Are you suggesting I remove the weapon from my truck and bring it inside at the end of every day and reverse the process the next morning? I live in a VERY low crime area. Is this a generalization or should it just be accepted as a peril of defending yourself? The truck was not broken into. I'll freely admit to occasional absentmindedness. There were opportunities when the truck was unlocked and out of my sight and access to the gun was there (oil change, overnight stay at a car repair shop, maybe one or two others). I'll even confess to forgetfulness and leaving it unlocked a night or two over the years, but that doesn't even move the needle in terms of theft probability. The gun was 16 years old (5,821 overnight stays in the glove box). I estimate the theft was committed over the last 30 days (I don't check the console every time I get in).
OP, I hope you aren’t keeping guns in your truck all the time. Not secure.
I made the decision a long time ago that the gun would be a permanent fixture inside the truck based on my own day-to-day habits and the unpredictability of when and where crimes are perpetrated, along with the idea of losing the gun vs having it ready when the fit hits the shan. When I get the replacement weapon, I fully intend to revert back to my old habits and accept the probability of the whole thing happening again - maybe this time being a little more diligent. Relatively speaking, losing a gun is a small price to pay for being alive. You can replace the gun.

Yes

And this is why

If you need a gun to stay alive, keeping it in the glove box is not the best plan.
It’s not that hard to get in the habit of toting a gun with you everywhere you go. But if you want to leave a gun in your vehicle indefinitely, get something more secure to store it in. (Console vault, locker down, etc)

quote:Okay.
Let's talk about this.
You're a lazy piece of shite who has now put a firearm on the street that could very well take the life of an innocent person.
If you'd been a more conscientious firearm owner this likely would not have happened.
Instead, you're exactly the type of person that the left loves to exemplify when it comes to anti-gun sentiment.
So thanks, a-hole.
EDIT: Downvote away, but OP is the poster child for the left and puts stink on all other responsible gun owners.

I really hope you've rethought this position, especially now that someone knows you're a good source for free firearms.

This is quite irresponsible thinking and I fully believe if you give it some thought you will come to the same conclusion. You've been a member here for a long time and have seemed a reasonable and rational poster most times.
There are any number of gun safes designed to be mounted in your vehicle that would be a good solution if you wish to leave the gun in your truck, which I do understand the desire (or sometimes need) to do that. Here is a selection, obviously, a determined thief could probably get these out with some effort but most people robbing a vehicle are after an easy target, not anything that will take time and effort. https://www.gunsafes.com/Vehicle-safes.html

The problem is you have provided a criminal with a killing weapon. In the future you may actually provide the man who wants to invade your home with the weapon used to kill you or a loved one. Yes, I know that is not much of a likelihood.

Holy fricking shite.

Come on, man
Look, someone stole your gun, so unless you did take it out of the truck, then someone broke into your truck. You just have no idea how, where or when.
The person who stole your gun probably cased you, knew it was there, and now knows that you didn't even notice it. This person is likely watching a bit, to see if you put another gift in his basket.

I’m as big a supporter of gun rights as anyone. But if you’re stupid enough to leave one in the glove box of an unlocked vehicle, then you should lose your privileges to own one.
With rights come responsibility. “Losing a gun is a small price for being alive, you can replace the gun”….are you kidding me?
What about the innocent person who gets gunned down by a thief because you were too stupid, lazy, and irresponsible to secure your weapon properly?
Tell you what, there’s a huge thread in the OT concerning the LSU student who was killed at the train tracks. I dare you…no, I double dare you…to post this crap in that thread. You’ll get eviscerated. You’re pathetic.
