What’s the scariest/sketchiest situation one of you pilots have been involved in?
I had a flight a few years ago going into MSY flying through some pretty serious weather. I thought that damn plane was going to fall out of the sky.
Had a flight going into Denver that ran into some severe turbulence. Plan had to of fallen 1000ft.

9 ship letdown through mountainous terrain in the weather. 100% on the guy leading the formation to not drag you into a mountain.
To give you some perspective... those pilots on the flight through the weather that you were on probably don't even remember the flight. We get bounced around a lot. Not trying to be a jerk at all, but what may seem extreme to you is most likely routine to the guys up front.

Oh no doubt.

All that said, we are in constant pursuit of the smoothest ride possible up front.
As far as harrowing experiences in an airliner, I’ve had none. And that’s over the course of A LOT of time in the front and the back.

Badass man. Didn’t know you flew the Bus

Lost pressurization about 600 miles from the nearest friendly airport, or what I thought was the nearest. I was about 6 hours into a 10 hour mission. Went on the oxygen and then descended to 12K where we could breath and made it back with no issues.
It turns out that motors burn a lot more gas at lower altitudes than they do at higher ones. I couldn’t make it to home plate at a low altitude so I stayed high on oxygen until our bottle ran out and then descended and luckily had enough gas to make it back. In hindsight there were other airports that I could have landed at which while not have been 100% secure, were probably safer than pushing it like I did.
ETA: I’ll take that any day of the week before flying a 9 ship in the soup through mountains

Frozen elevator in a King Air coming back from TEB late one night. Plane sat on the ramp in the rain for several hours before departure, and water froze the control cables at altitude, though we didn’t realize it until we went to start our decent. Thankfully we were able to start a slow decent using the elevator trim and regained full control as we warmed up at lower altitudes.
It was super smooth for the pax and they were none the wiser, but not being able to push down on the yoke for a bit was unsettling.
Now…I’ve scared myself plenty times in little airplanes, but that’s how you learn

Caught a really cool rainbow between two cloud layers this afternoon. Somewhere over Nebraska.

Fort Myers, FL from way up.
Looks a lot like a T-bone to me. Or Africa. Which also looks like a T-bone.

Very cool photos. I'm gonna have to dig through some of mine tonight and see what good ones I can find.

quote:Most regionals are paying $90-$100/hr right now for 1st year FO’s. Absolutely crazy.
I decided I'd pursue it after a conversation with my best buddy (check airman jet blue) and grabbed my first 12 hours SEL in his 170. I have had my glider ticket since 2003. off and on currency. I figured if I worked a regional for a bit the travel bennies would be the real benefit. The money would be gravy added on top of a nice retirement. All in ! why not ? I'll have about 12 years of 121 time left when I retire from #1.

Took this one recently going into IAH from the east coast. That’s Toledo Bend on the right and Sam Rayburn on the left. They’re about 20 miles apart.
