I was looking at getting a Leatherman Multi Tool. I was trying to decide from the Leatherman Surge and the P4. The Surge is heavier then the P4. The Surge does have more tools and better quality in some. Also has interchangeable T shank saws. The P4 is lighter and magnetic, which is nice. Also your able to open everything one handed.

Anyone hear have either and like one or the other best?

i'm just here to say avoid the skeleton models at all costs; i had it in my pocket and managed to get my fingernail wedged in the blade compartment

i have the rebar model now which is good but not great

Don't know anything about the P4, but I bought a Surge probably 5 years ago (along with most of the accessories) and I like it.

I have a Gerber multitool that must be at least 30 years old and a Leatherman that I’ve had for 5 years or so. The Gerber is a much better piece of gear than the Leatherman. I would be willing to bet the Gerber model I have is no longer in production.

I have had the Surge for almost 5 years. It’s held up really well.

I have the Supertool 300. About $100. Love it. One drawback: I have to open it up to use the knife. Some versions have a knife accessible on the outside for easier access. That said, I love mine. I can get to the knife quickly. Use it everyday.

I’ve got a Victorinox multi tool and like it much better than the leather man. I got it 15 years ago as a anniversary award from my company. The blades lock when opened. The tools accessible without having to open up the tool first, when using the pliers, the edges of the handles are smooth and don’t dig into your fingers, and it just seems like a higher build and quality materials.

I have a surge and a skelatool after many years of carrying the surge I decided that I mostly used screwdriver and pliers and knife. I rotate it with my normal pocket knife carry.
One thing I can say is they have a good warranty I broke the pliers twice my fault trying to use it in correctly where I knew is shouldn’t but was in a bind so did it anyway. Emailed them told them I was willing to pay for it cus I didn’t blame it on them and they fixed it free of charge.

Can't speak to their quality now, because all my newer Leathermans ride around in center consoles or in tackle boxes.

But the original Leatherman was quality. I bought mine in 1988 or 89, and I haven't been fishing or hunting since without it on my belt.
